“Ha! Okay, go ahead and call. Let’s see how much power your so–called husband has. Will he come and drive us out?” Linda scoffed, crossing her arms as she sat down in a nearby chair. She propped her legs up, clearly signaling she wasn’t leaving until she saw how this played out.
Emily felt uneasy watching the scene unfold. She quickly sidled up to Jazlyn, nervously clutching her arm
Jazlyn acted on impulse.
“Didn’t you already get divorced? How is calling your ex–husband going to help?”
Jazlyn didn’t reply. She took a deep breath, dialed the number, and waited. It wasn’t long before the call connected.
At that moment, Kingsley was at Freya’s house.
Freya was bustling around the kitchen, preparing something for him to eat. Kingsley glanced at her busy figure and said in his usual cool tone, “Freya, you should rest more. Your health isn’t great.”
Freya turned and offered him a soft smile. “Kingsley, you’ve been working nonstop since I got back. Do you remember the coconut macaroons I used to make for you? It’s been ages since I baked them. I thought I’d make some for you to try.”
Kingsley’s expression softened slightly as the memory surfaced. On one of his birthdays years ago, Freya had baked them for him. The taste had lingered in his memory long after she left.
“Alright,” he finally said.
Freya smiled warmly, watching as he returned his attention to his documents. Quietly, she took out a small vial and sprinkled its contents onto the macaroons. Her heart fluttered as she thought about the night ahead. After tonight, everything could go back to the way it used to be.
Her gaze lingered on Kingsley’s broad figure with a mix of longing and anticipation.
Just then, Kingsley’s phone rang.
“Honey.” The syrupy, lilting voice on the other end pierced through his eardrum, sending an involuntary shiver down his spine. Goosebumps prickled across his skin.
It was Jazlyn.
What’s with that voice? Kingsley frowned. Jazlyn had called him “Honey” in the past, but it had always been casual, tinged with a hesitant hopefulness. He rarely responded, so she eventually stopped.
But today’s “Honey” was completely different. It was dripping with exaggerated sweetness, layered with an unmistakable mockery. Paired with the sharp, sarcastic expressions she’d taken to wearing recently, it made his face darken instantly.
“Jazlyn? Have you lost your mind?” His voice was laced with frustration.
Jazlyn, however, acted as if she hadn’t heard his question. She continued in that overly saccharine tone, “Honey, I’m at Frostwind Garden, and someone’s bullying me. You know, as your wife, if I get mistreated, it’s a slap in your face. And if Old Mr. Zinn finds out, he might think you’re incapable of even protecting your wife. That wouldn’t look very good for you, would it?”
Kingsley’s grip on the phone tightened.
Is she threatening me again?
The mention of Thomas Zinn was no coincidence. Jazlyn intended to warn him that she would run to Thomas if he didn’t act. Kingsley’s eyes narrowed dangerously, and his voice dropped to a low, menacing growl. “Jazlyn, don’t push your luck. Do you have any idea what the consequences of threatening me like this are?”

“You …”
Kingsley’s face hardened, his jaw clenching tightly. His bloodshot eyes burned with fury, his anger barely contained.
He couldn’t help but wonder: was Jazlyn implying that if he didn’t intervene, she’d expose their relationship to the public?
