Chapter 27 Love
Finished
Jazlyn realized she had spent several minutes waiting outside the Zinn family’s antique mansion on Rivermont Street.
When she glanced up, she noticed Kingsley’s car pulling over, but it wasn’t Kingsley who stepped out–it was Freya.
Though uncertain at first, she quickly plastered on a smile.
Kingsley gave Jazlyn a cautious look, his gaze lingering as if unsure of what to say.
For some unexplainable reason, meeting her eyes in that instant made him feel a twinge of guilt.
Wait, why should he feel guilty? Everyone was aware of his relationship with Freya. There was absolutely no reason for guilt to creep in.
“Ms. Xander.”
Freya was the first to approach.
“I should’ve told you earlier, but Kingsley and I both agreed that Grandpa deserves to meet his great–grandson … ” she said with a smile, resting a hand on her stomach.
Jazlyn gave a small nod. “Let’s head inside. We shouldn’t keep Grandpa waiting.”
Without sparing Freya another glance, she turned and walked away.
Freya’s expression soured. It felt like hitting a soft wall, leaving her with no outlet for her frustration. Clenching her teeth, she silently cursed under her breath.
Let’s see how long you can keep that smug attitude, you fool. Do you really think you’re a match for me?
Freya cast a forlorn glance back at Kingsley, only to find him narrowing his eyes, his gaze fixed on Jazlyn as she walked inside without sparing him or Freya a look.
“Kingsley, do you think Ms. Xander will be upset that I’m here?” she asked, stepping directly into his way.
“She won’t. Let’s head inside,” Kingsley replied flatly as he guided Freya through the door.
“Jazlyn, you’ve finally decided to visit me!”
The elderly man, his silver hair gleaming but his figure still robust for his years, approached her with a playful pout, resembling a child eagerly waiting for attention.
“Grandpa… “Jazlyn greeted him with a smile. “I’ve just been tied up with things lately, which is why I haven’t been around. But if you really missed me so much, you could’ve called! You never reached out–I thought you didn’t care about me anymore.”
Her tone was light and teasing as she greeted him warmly.
“Of course not! I’ve had your favorite dishes prepared every day, just waiting for you to show up,” the old man grumbled, his tone half–complaint, half–teasing. “Hmph, it must’ve been Kingsley stopping you from visiting, huh? Don’t pay attention to him. Next time, just come on your own.”
He spoke as though Kingsley wasn’t truly his grandson, while Jazlyn was the apple of his eye.
Kingsley and Freya stepped inside just in time to witness this warm exchange.
The once–untouchable business legend, known for his commanding presence, now appeared more like a doting elder showering Jazlyn with affection.
