Chapter 4 Earning Money to Support the Family

Just as Jazlyn felt she might pass out from lack of air, Kingsley finally released his grip on her neck. Of course, he had no intention of hurting her. He still had plans to marry Freya. Jazlyn spent the rest of the night packing up her belongings. After the divorce, she would need to make space for someone else. The Xanders were bankrupt, and her father was gone. All that was left was an apartment. Her sick mother was still at home, waiting for Jazlyn to support her. Jazlyn knew she needed to get herself together—physically and emotionally—and start making money to support her family. She hesitated for a moment before deciding to call her former senior, Noah Lloyd. “Jazlyn, are you ready to work at our studio? That’s fantastic! The professor always said you’d be the best architect in Clarethia. It was such a shame you disappeared after graduation. But now that you’re back, we’ll gladly welcome you!” Listening to Noah’s voice on the other end of the line, Jazlyn was filled with mixed emotions. “Thank you for giving me this chance.” Back then, she had been overjoyed and amazed to marry Kingsley, a man so perfect and talented. She had felt incredibly lucky to be noticed by someone so outstanding in Seaville. Now, she realized how foolish she had been. Later, she visited her mother. “What did you say? You want to divorce Kingsley?” Ruby Scott shouted as she hit Jazlyn. “You haven’t brought anything beneficial to our family all these years! Now that we’re bankrupt, you should be begging him to save us, not asking for a divorce! How dare you even think of leaving him!” Jazlyn felt numb to the pain, staring at her mother as she spoke calmly, “Mom, it’s not that I want a divorce. It’s that the woman he loves is back, and he wants to end our marriage.” But Ruby wouldn’t listen. “Why are you so useless? You’ve been with him for three years, and you still can’t keep his heart! I won’t allow this divorce!” Jazlyn struggled to hold down Ruby, who was still hitting her. “I’ll find a way to get the money. I promise I’ll bring it tomorrow. But as for this marriage, I’ve made up my mind.” She turned and left. Back at her place, she packed up the expensive clothes from her room. In the three years she had been married, she barely used the clothes, shoes, and bags the Zinns had bought for her. She contacted a saleswoman to sell them all. This money could help her family for a while. Afterward, she’d focus on getting design projects and commissions to ease her financial situation. At the mall, the saleswoman looked at the clothes, then at Jazlyn’s modest outfit, raising an eyebrow. “Are all these real?” Given Jazlyn’s simple appearance, the saleswoman doubted she owned so many high-end brands. Jazlyn replied, “They’re all genuine. If even one is fake, I’ll compensate you for everything.” The saleswoman was skeptical, but the clothes seemed authentic. “Jazlyn, I didn’t expect you to stoop so low. Are you so desperate that you have to sell fake goods and scam people out of money?” Freya’s voice interrupted as her delicate hand, adorned with an elegant watch, reached out and grabbed the clothes. She sneered at them before tossing them carelessly onto the ground.
