Chapter 6 She Falls Unconscious
Jazlyn smirked faintly as she tried to stand, but a sudden, sharp pain shot through her stomach. Her body was still recovering from the recent miscarriage. With everything going on, she’d completely forgotten about her antibiotics. “I didn’t do anything wrong.” Kingsley’s expression darkened with anger. “Do you think I didn’t hear what you said to Freya just now?” He had overheard her words and disbelief washed over him. Jazlyn’s words were cutting and merciless, as though she didn’t care about the consequences. She smiled weakly. Of course, Freya was the woman Kingsley loved—her pain would always mean more to him than anything Jazlyn could say or do. Clenching her teeth, Jazlyn said coldly, “Then keep your precious woman out of my way. I know all about your peculiar habits in bed. If you don’t back off, I might accidentally let something slip that’ll leave her heartbroken.” Kingsley turned gloomy. “You truly have no shame. You’re the most disgraceful woman I’ve ever met.” She let out a bitter laugh. “Shame? What good is dignity when I have nothing—no money, no career, and no man?” The pain in her stomach worsened. All she wanted was for the two of them to leave her alone. It became clear to Kingsley that he had never truly known Jazlyn. He stared at her for a long moment before deciding it wasn’t worth the effort anymore. Their divorce would be finalized the next day. After that, there would be no reason for them to cross paths again. Without another word, he helped Freya to her feet and walked away, leaving Jazlyn alone. Jazlyn remained seated, feeling the judgmental stares of the saleswomen lingering on her like a weight she couldn’t shake off. It took several moments for her to pull herself together. Slowly, she gathered her scattered clothes, shoes, and bags. How should she explain to Ruby tomorrow? Jazlyn didn’t have the answers, but there was no turning back now. When she got home, a message from Noah lit up her phone screen. “Noah, do you have any drawing jobs available right now? I need the money. If there’s something urgent, I can start immediately.” Noah hesitated before responding, “There’s a project that needs to be done quickly, but it’s complicated. I wasn’t sure about taking it.” “Let me try.” Within minutes, he added her to a group chat with the client. The client, aware that Jazlyn was inexperienced, didn’t hide their skepticism. “Our design has already been turned down by several top studios. Do you think you can handle this?” Jazlyn responded calmly, “Let me give it a shot. I’ll send you a draft by tomorrow morning. If it meets your expectations, we can proceed with the deposit.” Though doubtful, the client agreed, albeit reluctantly. Once she received the design details, she studied them carefully before diving in. She worked non-stop through the night, her focus unwavering. By morning, the draft was finally complete, and Jazlyn submitted it. Utterly exhausted, she rested her head on the table and dozed off. When she woke up, it was already half past eight. Panicked, she checked her phone and saw multiple messages lighting up the group chat. “Wow, did you draw this? Are you truly new to this? It’s incredible! I’ll show your masterpiece to our CEO right away—it’s on par with top international designers!” Jazlyn let out a relieved sigh. Despite the years that had passed, her foundational skills hadn’t failed her. With no time to waste, she quickly gathered her belongings and rushed to City Hall. However, as soon as she stepped out of the taxi, a wave of dizziness hit her. Everything spun, and her legs gave way. “Help! Someone fainted!” a nearby voice called out. When Jazlyn opened her eyes again, she found herself lying in a hospital bed.
