Kingsley looked around the hospital ward. Jazlyn’s eyes flickered, and she quickly stood up. “I didn’t expect you’d truly be here.” She grabbed his arm and pulled him toward the exit. “If you want to argue, let’s do it outside. Don’t disturb the other patients.” Kingsley had a strange sense of familiarity with the place. He remembered that Freya had been here before. It wasn’t until they were outside that Jazlyn released his arm. As he inhaled, a familiar scent hit him, and he realized it had been a long time since he’d been this close to her. When she let go of his arm, he remembered the distinct fragrance she always carried. “Is the money ready already? Seems like you truly care about Ms. Quinlan.” Jazlyn’s decisive words snapped him back to reality. He frowned slightly, studying her face carefully. “Are you sick? What’s wrong with you?” Was this the time for him to care about her? His concern was too late. “It’s not a fatal illness. Don’t worry. You won’t end up a widower,” Jazlyn said, her tone mocking. “Jazlyn, do you have to speak like this?” Kingsley’s voice was filled with frustration. He noticed how distant she seemed, almost like a stranger now. He had nearly forgotten how gentle she used to be with him. “What’s the matter? Do you think I’m too harsh? Isn’t it enough that Ms. Quinlan is gentle with you?” “You … ” Her sarcasm irritated him, but he noticed the needle marks on her delicate wrist. “What’s going on? What’s wrong with you that you won’t even tell me?” Kingsley asked, his voice now full of concern. They were on the verge of divorce, but for the first time, he was genuinely paying attention to her. In the past, he might have overlooked even something as serious as her needing an injection. Now, though, she was hiding something from him—like the fact that she had once been pregnant with his child. It felt like an insult to her dead child. Jazlyn snapped, clearly annoyed, “Why do you care now? In the last three years, you’ve barely been a husband. You’ve never taken me out on a date or gone shopping with me. I’m not satisfied with that. If you want me to agree to the divorce, you’ll have to take me on a shopping spree first!” “What are you talking about?” Kingsley was taken aback, even slightly amused. He couldn’t help but sneer. “Are you crazy?” Jazlyn’s gaze was unwavering. “I think today’s the perfect time. Let’s go now.” “Jazlyn, don’t push your luck!” Kingsley’s expression darkened as he saw she was serious. “Is this too much? You’ve wasted three years of my life. In that time, I’ve dealt with your family, put up with your mother’s insults, and cared for your sick grandmother. Do you think I did it all for nothing? Do the Zinns know that Freya is now pregnant with your child while we’re still married? If I tell them, they’ll never let her into the Zinns—no matter what it costs them.” Jazlyn finished in one breath, then lifted her chin proudly, staring at Kingsley without fear.
