Chapter 10
“Then…do you know where Lyssa went? When did she leave?” Stefan asked hoarsely before instinctively licking his dry lips.
The maids all shook their heads. “Mr. Splenstone, Mrs. Splenstone left early this morning with a suitcase. We don’t know where she went.”
Left? Where could she have gone?
His mind went blank as he struggled in vain to figure out where she might be.
Alyssa’s parents had long since remarried and started new families. It was impossible for to have gone to them.
He could only place his hope on Alyssa’s friends.
“Hello? This is Stefan Is Lyssa with you?”
“Huh? What are you talking about? Lyssa couldn’t possibly be here.”
Conversations like this happened countless
Stefan even called his own friends, but no one knew where Alyssa had pone
The overwhelming despair crashed over him again and again. It felt as though he was back in those days without Alyssa.
She was the one true love of his life, almost as vital as the flesh on his chest. Having his “flesh” ripped away, the excruciating pain pierced him to his core, nearly destroying him.
“Lyssa, stop playing games with me, please? I want to see you,” Stefan roared until his voice broke and his eyes turned bloodshot. He looked like a lion who had lost its mate.
Suddenly, something came to mind, and he rushed upstairs.
In the study, there was a box labeled with a sticker that read “O
“Open in two weeks.” The sticker came off with a gentle pull.
It was as if Stetan had found a glimmer of hope. He cradled the gift box as if it were sacred.
“Maybe Lyssa left me a message here so that I’d go find her,” Stefen murmured to himself, almost delirious.
Layer after layer of wrapping was removed, and inside the box, a divorce agreement signed by Alyssa appeared glaringly before him. “No! This can’t be… It’s impossible…”
He clutched the divorce agreement tightly, slumping into the chair in disbelief, unable to process what he was seeing
“Lyssa loves me so much. How could she abandon me? Someone must have swapped out the gift she left for me!” Stefan gritted his teeth, stubbornly refusing to accept the truth.
He immediately summoned all the maids in the villa, qu
questioning each of them about who might have touched the gift box in the study cabinet.
“Mr. Splenstone, we’re only responsible for cleaning Without orders from you or Mrs. Splenstone, we wouldn’t dare touch anything we shouldn’t!” one of the maids said.
Another maid added, “That’s right! If you don’t believe us, you can check the surveillance footage in the study. We will know the truth then.”
Each maid swore they hadn’t touched anything, yet Stefan refused to relent
It wasn’t until the surveillance footage played before him in fast–forward that he finally had to face reality.
Deep down, how could he not have known? The box in his hands was the very same one Alyssa had left for him two weeks ago. He was merely grasping at straws, unwilling to accept the truth.
In just half an hour, the torment in his heart felt like it had been an eternity.
Every question he asked was a desperate hope for some miracle to prove that Alyssa d
didn’t truly want to leave him.
But the truth was merciless,
Over and over again, Stefan replayed the scene where Alyssa signed the divorce agreement. She had truly given up on him and truly wanted to leave. “But why?” he questioned himself.
Every moment with Alyssa over the past two werks began to surface in his mind. He scrutinized everything in excruciating detail.
Those subtle, overlooked events that were out of the norm before gradually came into sharper focus.
