Chapter 9
“Well, love is like that. Once you‘ re hurt enough, you let go. And once you let go, it’s easy to pick up a new relationship.”
Julian fixed his gaze on mine. His eyes refused to look away as if afraid he might miss something.
After a long while, he finally realized there was no trace of the past in my eyes. Only then did he lower his head in defeat.
“It’s my fault. I was the one who lost you.”
I nodded. “Yes, it is. So go back, Julian. I’m going too.”
After that, I turned and walked away.
Julian took a couple of steps after me and asked softly. “So, do you like the man you’re going to marry?”
I looked at the moon, thinking of his refined features and radiant smile. I nodded emphatically.

“I do. I like him so much.”
Then Julian left.
No one knew he’d been there in the dead of night.
He’d call my brother occasionally, listening to him go on about marrying his little sister
a mix of excitement and worry.
On the day I married Zack, Julian transferred a huge sum to my brother’s account.
My brother showed me his phone as I was getting my makeup done.
“Wanda, you hit the jackpot. That
scoundrel Julian just added a hefty gift for you!”
I glanced at the seven–figure amount and smiled faintly.
But my brother wouldn’t stop rambling.
“If that scoundrel is this generous, should I hurry up and get married too? Maybe he’ll throw in something for me as well!”

I couldn’t hold back anymore and rolled
my eyes at him. “Do you even have a girlfriend?”
My brother sulked.
After he left, I received an envelope from Jennie.
She apologized to me in the letter.
She explained that she hadn’t married Julian. Back then, she accepted Julian‘ s mother’s money to leave the country—not for the money, but because Julian had called out my name the night they were together.
She loved Julian so much that she couldn’t let go even after eight years.
Driven by resentment, she returned,
hoping to confront me. She never expected Julian to propose to her.
Julian’s vow truly moved her.
But later, she gradually realized that Julian would still be with her eight years from

now because of me.
She was furious, unwilling to accept it.
She thought that driving me away would make Julian completely hers.
But that wasn’t the truth.
After I left, Julian went crazy looking for me, even falling seriously ill.
When he recovered, he returned to his usual self outwardly but was always lost in thought.
Especially when looking at her, it seemed like he was seeing someone else through her.
Jennie couldn’t stand his gaze and couldn’t bear being ignored by him any longer.
So, on the eve of their engagement, she tossed aside her ring and eloped with a much younger man.
She said she often thought about what she did to me at that party. It was the most

shameful thing she’s ever done.
She said she hoped my marriage would be full of love and understanding.
With the officiant’s voice calling from outside, I ripped the letter and threw it
away. Then, I smoothed my gown before heading down the aisle.
I’d forgotten about those old dreams anyway. It was a new beginning.
So, I would never look back!
