Soon after, rumors spread in class that I was a jinx who caused my mother’s death.
When I returned to my seat during the break, I found dead snakes and poisonous spiders stuffed into my desk
My chair and table were replaced with ones that couldn’t be used.
The physical humiliation wasn’t good enough for Lana, and she resorted to psychological torture.
On the way out of school, she flashed a proud smile at me, her round eyes hiding filthy things.
I was so angry that my mind went blank.
I threw my textbook at her with all my might, hitting her head squarely.
She crouched down, clutching her head and wailing, while I felt extremely satisfied.
Dexter witnessed it all.
He came over, pushed me down, and shouted at me, incandescent with rage.
“Caroline, why are you so vicious?”
My mind was in chaos, and my heart beat fast. I knew I was about to lose control.-
“Yes, I’m vicious. I only wish I had killed her just now.” I shouted out, as if it were the last breath from my chest.
My voice was so loud that it startled the sparrows on the electric wire far away and everyone around me.
Dexter looked shocked, and the people started to whisper.
“You’re crazy,” he said with anger and shame.
But I just smiled and said to him, “Yes, I’m crazy.
“Dexter, if you really knew what she did to me, you’d probably go crazy too.
“I hope you won’t regret it one day when you find out the truth.”

I loved studying and worked so hard at it.
But it was just because I ranked first in my grade. My dad touched my head as a reward, while Dexter brought back a cake.
I was addicted to that little bit of warmth.
