Just as he was about to speak, Amber said first, “Where have you kept Carrie?”
Dexter frowned and asked back condescendingly, “Isn’t she hanging out with you guys?”
He looked down on everyone who was on good terms with me.
But while he could insult me, I wouldn’t allow him to insult my friends.
Amber was stunned, her eyes widening.
Then her face turned cold. “Dexter, are you so heartless?
“Your sister has been missing for seven days, and you haven’t even looked for her?
“Aren’t you afraid something might have happened to her?”
Dexter’s hand gripping the doorknob turned white. I saw a moment of panic in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared.
He regained his composure. “What could happen to her?
“I wish she never came back.”
Amber trembled with anger, pointing at Dexter. “With a brother like you, no wonder she wanted to commit suicide.”
So, Amber knew…
She knew I had depression.
She knew I wanted to jump off the overpass that day.
That was why she spoke so much to a stranger like me.
She even invited me to listen to her song, but I didn’t see the nervousness and pleading in her eyes.
“What? Carrie… She tried to commit suicide? How could that be?” Dexter said incredulously.
That was right. How could I commit suicide? I should be alive, enduring the humiliation and torment day after day.
But my heart was made of flesh too.

Chapter 17 An Unexpected Visit
I had died for him once.
There wouldn’t be a second time.
Muttering to himself, Dexter rushed out of the house as if sensing something.
He began searching near the house.
He should have chased after me when I ran away from home that night.
Now I would never appear again.
