She tried to maintain her dignity because she didn’t want people to look down on me to become friends with someone who swore all the time.
“Dexter, I know how much you hate Carrie,” Amber continued, staring at Dexter.
Dexter’s gaze was down as he held my ashes in his hands.
He remained silent. What else could he say?
But Amber wasn’t planning to let him off. “Otherwise, why did you collude with your foster sister, Lana, to force Carrie to die?”
“What does this have to do with Lana? Don’t bring her into this,” Dexter blurted out, trying to defend
Lana.
Amber sneered, saying, “If you hadn’t indulged Lana in bullying Carrie at school, how could she have been driven to depression and suicide?
“Don’t tell me you don’t know any of the things she did,” Amber spat, her patience wearing thin.
Equally annoyed by Dexter’s silence, Eric stepped forward to take my ashes.
“Don’t make me spell it out so clearly,” Amber said. “Dexter, remember this. You killed your sister with your own hands.”
Her words sent a shiver down Dexter’s spine, and he suddenly let go.
The urn fell to the ground and crashed.
A sudden gust of wind carried all of me away into the distance.
Dexter belatedly threw himself on the ground, trying to grasp those pieces of me, but to no avail.

Amber looked into the distance. Her eyes were misty, and she suddenly smiled.
“Carrie, you are free now. You won’t be trapped anymore.”
