Chapter 50
The moment I recognized him, the last of my strength vanished. My legs buckled, and I collapsed into his arms.”
He cupped my face, his touch gentle yet urgent, his voice barely steady. “Ada… what happened to you? Where have you been all these years? I finally found you.”
A single tear landed on my skin. I reached out instinctively, wanting to wipe it away–but I couldn’t find his face.{
Spencer froze. His grip tightened ever so slightly. “Ada,” he murmured, his voice laced with sudden dread. “What happened to your eyes?”
I opened my mouth to answer, but before I could speak, Robert’s voice sliced through the air, sharp and controlled.
“Adalyn, come here.” A shudder rippled through me.§
Spencer felt it. His hold on me firmed while his voice remaining steady. “No need to be afraid, Ada. I’m here now.” He gently stroked my back. “No one is ever going to hurt you again.”}
I nodded, I was too stunned my throat tight with emotion. Slowly, the tension drained from my body.
As my eyes fluttered shut and I rested against Spencer’s shoulder, peaceful at last, Robert’s expression sank completely. His gaze turned ice–cold as he locked eyes with Spencer.
“Let go of my fiancée.“)
A flicker of surprise crossed Spencer’s face, but in an instant, he understood. A chill settled over him.§
The air was thick with tension when Lexi suddenly stepped between them. She took a moment to size Spencer up, noting his commanding presence, then smiled sweetly.
“Sir, her name is Adalyn. She’s Mr. Bain’s fiancée. She lost her sight recently, suffered a bit of a shock… completely lost her mind, actually. It would be best if you handed her back to us. We’ll make sure she gets the treatment she needs–before she accidentally hurts you.”
Spencer’s expression darkened. “Get lost.”
Lexi’s flawless face twisted in embarrassment, her eyes filling with tears. Robert pulled her into his arms, his voice low and measured.
“I don’t care who you are. You’re not walking out of here tonight.”
At his signal, a swarm of men in black suits closed in.}
Spencer let out a quiet, amused chuckle. “It’s been a long time since someone had a death wish.”>
With a casual whistle, three towering men stepped forward, Red Dragon tattoos carved into their faces. Within seconds, the black–suited guards lay sprawled across the floor.
A gasp rippled through the crowd.
“These are the McLeods‘ elite guards!“}
“I heard Spencer McLeod himself was invited tonight… I can’t believe it’s actually true!“}
The crowd erupted in a frenzy. As Spencer’s expression darkened, many cautious guests quietly slipped out of the hotel, afraid of getting caught in whatever was about to unfold.
Lexi’s face stiffened in shock. She had never expected the man protecting me to be him–Spencer McLeod, the head of one of the most powerful families in the capital.
Her nails dug into her palms, her eyes flashing with jealousy and frustration. She couldn’t accept this.
“Mr. McLeod, there has to be some kind of misunderstanding,” she said, forcing a smile. “She’s not worth it. She’s blind, and just moments ago, she was in another man’s arms, enjoying herself-“§
Before she could finish, barrage of sharp cracks echoed through the room.
Smack! Smack! Smack! Smack!”
Lexi’s scream ripped through the air.
Spencer’s voice was eerily calm. “Anyone who harms Adalyn will meet the same fate.” He paused before continuing, “Death.“>
Robert’s face twisted as he watched the woman he had once treasured, the one he had always held close, being slapped to the ground like she was nothing.
