She snapped her head up, her face contorted with fury. “He’ll never choose you! He’s mine!”
I was so scared I couldn’t even scream. My hands were trembling as I called for an ambulance. This was a matter of life and death.
By the time the ambulance arrived, I was shaking so hard I could hardly stay on my feet. Since I’d witnessed everything, they made me go to the hospital too.
Carl showed up shortly after. He dropped everything and came running as soon as he got my call, not even bothering to check in at work first.
I was about to speak up when he slapped me across the face. “You told me you wanted a divorce, and I honestly thought you were finally seeing things clearly.
“I didn’t agree right away because I was trying to be understanding. I never thought you’d pull something like this just to get back at Wendy! I can’t believe you’d be this cruel!”
I was stunned. My left cheek was burning with pain.

trying to hold back my frustration. This was the man I’d spent six years with, the one who swore he’d always have my back.
I scoffed and slapped him as hard as I could. He froze, staring at me in disbelief.
“You’ve got no conscience, do you? You hurt me, and now you’re hurting her. You want everything to go your way. I never even called you out for being a piece of trash, and now you’re calling me cruel?”
“You’re cruel, aren’t you? You killed my baby!” Carl
roared.
