it took to help you. That was the only way.”

Carl stared at her, dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe this sweet, innocent–looking woman could be so manipulative. For the first time, he genuinely felt scared of her.
“If I get divorced because of cheating, do you have any idea what would happen to me? How could you be this dumb?” he yelled.
“Me? Dumb? Yeah, of course, I am! I never expected you’d actually do something and then have the nerve to deny it! You’re the one who said you
wanted to marry me, and now you’re dragging your feet!
“I had no choice but to push you into it! Now I see why your wife agreed to divorce! Because you’re trash!” Wendy barked.
Furious, Carl grabbed Wendy by the throat, his face twisted with rage like he wanted to choke her.
Wendy sneered. “You really think she’ll come back to you? She won’t, Carl. She deserves better. You’ll never get her back.”
Carl was momentarily dazed. He staggered back, almost losing his footing.
Yeah, I could be stubborn, but I’d been ready to put
everything aside and have his child. Yet, he betrayed me. He was the one who ruined the future I’d longed for.

Chapter 9
Wendy was right. He was absolute trash. And now, I was done with him for good.
Carl had no way out. He was backed into a corner and had no choice but to come clean. Finally, he agreed to the divorce.
On the day of the divorce, he showed up early at the courthouse, looking like a wreck with dark circles under his eyes.
Word was, he and Wendy had another huge fight at the hospital, but honestly, I couldn’t care less.
Finally, it was time to sign. I scribbled my name quickly, but Carl just sat there, holding the pen like it was weighing him down.
When he finally looked up at me, his eyes were bloodshot. Years ago, I could still see that spark in his eyes, but now, they were dull.
