I never expected Eugene to follow me out.
“Opal, let me explain. Back then, I only did what I did Because-”
I turned away, climbing into Evan’s car.
Lowering the window, I shot him a mocking glance.
“You regretted it deeply back then. Now, you should cherish her even more.”
Before I could finish speaking, the window slowly rolled up, cutting off Eugene’s stunned expression.
Evan held my hand firmly, his voice calm yet unwavering.
“You don’t need to waste your breath on him. He’s not worth it.”
“You’re right,” I replied, tightening my grip on his hand.
We spent the rest of the day together at his place, caught up in the heat of our emotions. By the next morning, I was packing my things and preparing for work.
In my previous life, even though I had landed safely, I was too shaken by the incident to secure the Ashford project. Eugene, with no competition, swooped in and won it effortlessly, doubling his assets thanks to its success.
That alone was enough to prove the project’s immense value. There was no way I would miss out on it this time.
While I was busy working tirelessly, Sharon showed up at my office.
“Opal, Eugene really needs this project. Can’t you just ”
“No,” I cut her off bluntly.
I wasn’t naïve enough to believe in their innocence in my previous life. If I hadn’t threatened Eugene with evidence of his misconduct to demand a divorce, who knows how long he would have continued tormenting me?
Even when we were about to finalize the divorce, he suddenly changed his mind, stabbed me with a knife, and set the villa on fire.
He claimed it was something we owed her, but every decision from start to finish was his. What did any of it have to do with me?
I didn’t want to waste any more time arguing with Sharon and had her escorted out of the building.
While I poured all my energy into securing the project, Eugene wasn’t idle either. He called me incessantly, using different numbers each time. After blocking him repeatedly and warning him that I would file a police report if he didn’t stop, he finally backed off for a while.
After two months of relentless effort, I finally succeeded. The Ashford project was mine.
During the celebration, things escalated between Evan and me, and I ended up pinned beneath him for

an intense, passion–filled night.
By the next morning, my entire body ached, my back sore and my legs weak. Even after forcing myself to get to the office, I felt utterly drained.
As I made my way to my office for a quick break, I was het with an unwelcome sight–Eugene kneeling on one knee, holding a bouquet of flowers.
“Opal, I know I was wrong. Please forgive ine.”
I had no patience to deal with him and only wanted to retreat to my office for some much–needed rest. Without sparing him much attention, I replied curtly, If you’re going to act crazy, do it somewhere else. Don’t bother me.”
As I turned to leave, Eugene quickly got up and reached out. He accidentally pulled off the silk scarf around my neck to reveal the unmistakable hickeys trailing down my neck.
“Opal…”
Snatching the scarf from his hands, I scoffed. “Crazy guy.”
