Judith called me and said she wanted to have a talk.
“Laura, I’m so sorry for everything. If that horrible woman hadn’t deceived us, Rick would never have divorced you. You’re still the daughter-in-law I like the most in my heart. Please come back.”
Her sudden plea for me to return was clearly insincere.
“Alright, let’s talk about it tomorrow,” I replied.
It worked perfectly for me—I had been waiting for this call because I had a surprise in store for them.
I arrived slightly earlier than the agreed time and overheard their conversation as I stood outside the door.
“Rick, I saw her earlier today while I was out shopping. She was buying a car in a store—so extravagant!”
The old lady couldn’t wait to share the news as soon as she got back. “I heard her stocks went up, and she made quite a bit. We should ask for the 50 thousand back. That’s your money, and she used it to invest. At least half of the profits should belong to you.”
Helen seemed shocked after hearing this—she hadn’t expected me to have such capabilities.
Rick, on the other hand, couldn’t stand to see me thriving after leaving him.
I pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Helen’s belly had grown even bigger, and Judith treated me as if I were a precious guest, carefully supporting me.
“I heard you made some money and even took over a hotel on Bell Street?”
Rick had just started the conversation when Judith cut him off loudly.
“Rick, why waste time talking? Tell her to give us back the money you gave her. And since she used your money to trade stocks, part of the profits belongs to us!”
“I’ve never seen people as shameless as you,” I said, disgusted by the three in front of me. “Why don’t you claim the money in the bank is yours too? If you’re so capable, go rob a bank!”
I made it clear that there was no way they would get a single cent back.
“You think making money makes you so great, but you can’t hide the fact that you can’t have children.” Helen tried to change the subject.
Just then, my phone buzzed with a message about Rick’s medical test results.
As expected, it was exactly what I had anticipated.
“Now I’m curious about who the father of the baby in your womb is,” I said, eager to see the drama unfold.
“What… what do you mean?” Judith looked confused.
“Your precious son has Azoospermia—he’s infertile,” I revealed.
She refused to believe it, accusing me of making things up.
“Wait a moment, and you’ll see if I’m telling the truth or not.”
At that moment, the door opened, and a young man in a suit carrying a briefcase walked in.
It was Frank Thomson, the professional lawyer Jason had arranged for me.
When Judith realized he was a lawyer, her expression turned sour. “You vile woman, what’s the meaning of this?”
