“Don’t worry, Order whatever you want. It’s on me,” said Jonny, pretending to be
generous.
“Now he’s a successful businessman, so this is nothing,” Lily Townsley said while being embraced by Jonny. Her words, though seemingly caring, hid a sharp tone. Oh, this is Laura, right? Do you remember her, the university’s top student? I heard things haven’t been going too well for her recently.”
“Looks like she’s not doing that great,” Megan Cole, Lily’s best friend, followed along with her insinuations.
“I thought Laura might feel embarrassed to come. After all, she just got divorced. It must be a bit awkward in front of you,” Lily added.
Jonny turned to me, saying, “Laura, if you had accepted my pursuit back then, things would be different. Unfortunately, I’m already with Lily, so you missed your chance.”
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. How could there still be such shameless people?
“Where’s your new boyfriend? Is he too embarrassed to show up, or is there something else going on?” Megan casually brought it up.

Megan deliberately raised her voice.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my tone cal., “Whether he’s reliable or not is none of your business. You seem to have a lot of time worrying about other people’s boyfriends. How about you focus on yourself? It’s been years, and you’re still single.” Upon hearing this, Megan’s face instantly darkened. She slammed the table and stood up. “What do you mean by that? I’m just trying to look out for you. Why are you being so rude? What’s up with that sharp tongue of yours?”
“You two can never stop arguing, can you? Enough already. This is a class reunion, don’t ruin the friendship between us.” The basketball team captain stood up, trying to mediate and ease the tension in the room.
