With that, Mr. Rane got up immediately and left.
Rick tried to stop him in a hurry, “Mr. Rane let me explain. It’s not what you think…”
But Mr. Rane shrugged him off decisively and walked away,
Rick glared at me with fury. “You ruined my plans again.”
I fearlessly met his gaze and replied coldly, With all the shady dealings you’ve done, do you really think I’d let you deceive another person? How many more people do you intend to scam?”
Many of my friends and clients had prior dealings with Rick. He not only embezzled company funds but also used his position to engage in improper transactions with multiple suppliers, swindling a large sum of money.
“Ms. Jackson, that was impressive!” Mr. Lowe complimented me.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I replied, “I just didn’t want to see another person fall victim. It’s disheartening to be tricked in business by people like him.”
Some time later, Jason brought me a package.
I took the package, feeling puzzled. “I don’t remember ordering anything online recently. Where did this come from?”
Jason shrugged and replied casually, “Maybe you forgot. Sometimes we order so much that it’s hard to keep track.”
“Could you open it for me? I’ve got something cooking in the kitchen and need to keep an eye on it.”
With that said, I hurried back to the kitchen,
I glanced at the living room occasionally. When I returned, I asked Jason what was inside the package. He seemed hesitant and avoided answering directly.
Feeling anxious, I reached for the package. “What’s in there? Let me take a look.”
“Uh… it’s just some underwear I ordered for myself. Probably best if you don’t look.” His face was pale, and he was clearly hiding something.
My suspicion grew stronger, and I snatched the box from him.
As soon as I opened a small slit in the box, a doll’s head fell out. It was smeared with

fake blood, making it look horrifying.

Thinking about it, I recalled recent events and guessed it must have been Rick. Upset that I had ruined his plans, he was likely trying to scare and intimidate me. “What a childish prank. It’s ridiculous.”
Though I said this nonchalantly, I felt uneasy deep down.
To avoid worrying Jason, I acted as if nothing had happened. “It’s just a harmless prank. Don’t let it bother you.”
I took photos to collect evidence. If it was really Rick and he tried anything else, I wouldn’t let him off the hook.
“Are you sure you’re okay? I’ll drive you to and from work from now on,” he said as he cleaned up the creepy doll.
“There’s no need. Even if it’s a prank, they wouldn’t dare to actually hurt me,” I reassured him while also trying to convince myself.
