On my way home from work, I noticed someone following me.
Recent news reports about a pervert on the loose immediately made me alarmed.
I quickly pulled out my phone, my fingers trembling as I sent a message to Jason, asking him to come find me immediately.
My heart was racing, and I quickened my pace, trying to shake off the mysterious follower. However, the sound of leather shoes striking the pavement followed relentlessly, drawing even closer.
When I turned around, I was stunned to see Rick. His face was still bruised from a previous encounter.
“So, it’s you. Sneaking around and following me—what are you trying to do?”
I angrily confronted him, attempting to break free from the sudden, suffocating hug he had thrown around me. His grip was so tight I could barely breathe.
“Let go of me!”
“I was wrong. Please forgive me. Let’s be together again,” he pleaded in a pitiful tone, but the redness in his eyes under his hat made him look almost deranged.
I knew he had ulterior motives.
“I know you’re not sincerely asking for reconciliation,” I said firmly.
He dropped to his knees before me, clutching at the hem of my coat.
“Get up! Don’t act so pitiful,” I said, trying to free myself from his grasp. But with no one around, my calls for help felt utterly powerless.
“The company is after me for repayment. I don’t have the money, and they’re going to file a lawsuit. I’ll definitely end up in prison. What about my mom? How can I leave her all alone?”
I responded coldly, feeling not an ounce of sympathy, “You embezzled company funds, didn’t you? That’s your own fault.”
“Yes! That bitch Helen ran off with my money, and I have no one else to turn to…” He went on about his misfortunes, but his words were nothing more than noise to
- me.
With the assets he used to have, he would have been able to ease the situation a little.

“Your mother already begged me before. I gave back the 50 thousand dollars from the divorce settlement. That’s all I can do, and don’t even think about threatening, me for more.”
He stood up, forcing me into a corner. His eyes, slightly misty, stared at me with hatred.
