Garrett smiled, a smile like a child who’d
received candy.
In the four years we were together, I’d never
seen him smile like that.
While changing the tire, he kept an eye on
- me.
I leaned against the car door, gazing at the
scenery, trying to ignore his amorous gaze.
“I’ll put your toolbox in the trunk. Thank you,
Chloe.”
Soon, he came over to me.
I grunted again, not wanting to speak.
As he closed the trunk, I was about to get in
the car.
But he stopped me again, this time,
regardless of the gasoline, he grabbed my
wrist.
“Let go!”
I was impatient, but I couldn’t break free.
Garrett’s eyes burned, he whispered, “Chloe, I
<
“Let go first.”
His hand trembled, before finally letting go,
hanging limp.
I rubbed my wrist and walked under a tree.
He followed, dejectedly.
“Chloe, I know you hate my self-
righteousness.”
That single sentence made me look at him.
Seeing me quiet, he chuckled wryly.
“I repented too late, didn’t I? I was so stupid. I
knew my dad didn’t like you, and I put Sarah
next to me, but I was arrogant, thinking I
could reject this problem, and it wouldn’t
affect us.”
“What are you trying to say?”
I interrupted, impatiently.
Garrett chuckled wryly again, looking at me.
“I investigated the plagiarism scandal and
Sarah’s injuries.
It was all a plot by my father and Sarah, to
L
break us up, so Sarah could take my place.”
I nodded. “I know. Is that all?”
Garrett was stunned, then two tears fell.
“Chloe, forgive me, it was all my father’s plot,
I was a victim too.”
“I admit the plot, but dare you say you had no
selfish motives?”
I impatiently tilted my head, exposing his
deepest secrets.
“Sarah may be wrong, but with your abilities, I
don’t believe you couldn’t find out! Why didn’t
you investigate seven years ago? Wasn’t it
because you had feelings for her?”
Seeing him open his mouth to speak, I waved
my hand. “Don’t bother denying it, you know
whether you had feelings for her!”
Garrett lowered his eyes, choking back sobs.
“I may have been distracted, but I never did
anything with Sarah. You’ve always been the
one in my heart!
く
In the seven years you were gone, I got rid of
her, and I’ve stayed single, waiting for you.
Chloe, I love you, I really love you. Please,
give me another chance. Let me be with you
again.”
I shook my head.
“It’s no use. After four years together, you
should know my personality. I have emotional
. I don’t allow my loved one to have
divided affections.
I believe in absolute fidelity, physically and
emotionally; Jackson is that, you don’t have a
chance! Please don’t bother me anymore, you
make me sick!”
I got in the car and left. Garrett followed a
few steps, then fell to the ground.
Watching me leave, he cried out in pain.
I didn’t go to the reunion. I called the class
monitor to apologize and went home.
That night, I confessed to Jackson about
L
meeting Garrett again.
That guy’s vinegar jar was knocked over
again.
No matter how much I apologized and tried to
coax him, he didn’t smile.
He kept me up all night.
I didn’t get up until noon the next day.
When I woke up, Jackson was still at home,
smiling, and inviting me for lunch.
I mentally complained; jealous men are
terrifying!
Life returned to normal. Garrett didn’t bother
me again.
Two months later, I found out I was pregnant.
Jackson was overjoyed, treating me like a
queen.
Looking at him and my obedient daughter, I
smiled.
Having a loving husband and family is truly
wonderful.
