Chapter 20
Selena and I spent New Year’s together, and I even posted about it on social media,
I knew Jessica probably saw it. During the break, she stayed away–no more surprise visits, no late–night calls. I figured she finally accepted that it was over. But just as I was letting my guard down, she showed up again, pounding on my door in the middle of the night.
When I opened it, Jessica stumbled inside, clearly drunk, throwing herself into my arms. It was like the night Cameron left–only this time, it was my name on her lips.
“Sebastian,” she murmured, clinging to me tightly. “I can’t take this anymore. I’m sorry, I wasted five years of your life. But I know now… it was never really Cameron. It’s you.”
Her words were slurred, but I could feel the desperation in her grip.
“I can’t watch you and Selena get closer,” she whispered. “Every time I see you with her, it’s like I’m dying inside.
I tried to push her away. “Jessica, you’re drunk.”
“Don’t push me away,” she said, tightening her hold. “I just want to hold you.”
I frowned, glancing at Selena’s apartment next door. Didn’t she hear the noises?
I glanced down at Jessica, who was clinging tightly to me, and reached for my phone to call Selena. Moments later, she opened the door, her gaze immediately landing on us–Jessica holding onto me, her face buried against my shoulder. Selena took a steadying breath, her lips pressing together as a hint of hurt flickered in her

eyes.
She just stood there, watching us. For a moment, I thought she might slam the door and refuse to speak to me again. But then, she surprised me by walking over and carefully helping Jessica off me, guiding her friend into her own apartment.
The whole time, Selena didn’t say a word.
Once she had changed Jessica into clean clothes and tucked her in, she stepped back into the living room. I stood up and took her hand, leading her gently to the sofa.
“Lena… we need to talk. There’s something, I need to tell you.”
She didn’t say anything, simply letting me guide her to sit next to me.
My throat tightened as I spoke, “Lena, Jessica and I were together for five years, but she never wanted to make it public.
I paused, waiting for her to say something, but she stayed quiet.
I pressed on, “When Cameron came back, she didn’t want him to know about us. She packed up and left in the middle of the night. Then…”
Before I could go further, Selena suddenly threw herself into my arms. She held me tight and stopped my words
cold
“Seb, don’t say another word. I believe you,” Selena said, her voice muffled as she pressed her face against my chest. “Let bygones be bygones, okay? From now on, I’ll be by your side forever.”

I could hear the distress in her voice.
See? I was so lucky to have met Selena.
As I wrapped my arms tightly around her, neither of us noticed the pair of resentful eyes glaring at us through the slightly open bedroom door.
