Selena really gave me the space I needed, not bothering me at all while she was away on her business trip.
But everywhere I looked, there were traces of her. The balcony of my apartment was filled with her favorite orchids, while the fridge contained food she had prepared in advance, as well as the little snacks she always made. No matter which comer of the house I went to, my mind replayed all the memories of the time I spent with her. To be honest, I couldn’t forget Selena. Since I met her, I’d truly felt her sincerity.
I couldn’t bear to stay at home, so I took the trash downstairs. When I reached the bottom of the building, I saw a young couple seemingly in a serious discussion. I thought it would be awkward to walk past them, but I still hadn’t thrown the trash out, so I decided to wait at the corner. They would probably leave soon.
As I stood there, I overheard their conversation.
“Babe, come back, okay? I miss you,” said the guy.
The girl hesitated for a moment before replying, “But I lied to you. Aren’t you mad?”
At this, I leaned forward slightly, my curiosity getting the better of me.
The boy gently pushed the girl’s hair back from her forehead. “Yeah, you lied to me, but you didn’t hurt me, right? Also, I truly felt your love. We may have started with lies, but that doesn’t mean we have to live in them going forward. I just know I don’t want to lose you, so I came to see you.”
As the girl burst into tears of joy, the guy pulled her into his arms.
“Silly girl, I almost lost you,” he said.
Watching this, it suddenly all clicked for me. Even though Selena had lied to me, she was still different from Jessica. I could feel her sincerity.
I remembered that time she took me to see the fireworks. Under the brilliant display, she had asked me, Sebastian, if one day, you find out I’ve lied to you, will you never talk to me again?”
