I knew Perseus was trying to provoke me. If he hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known about the charity gala or gotten the invitation card. 

I seldom attended Henry’s events because he always said I didn’t like those scenes and shouldn’t force myself. I was grateful for his understanding, not realizing he didn’t want me to be there. Almost no one in Henry’s circle had seen me before. 

I went to the church and sat there for a long time. I am indeed a kind person, and doing bad things makes me feel guilty. Being too kind isn’t good. It’s better to be a bit shameless. 

I attended the charity gala. 

Henry introduced Jessica, “This is my wife, Jessica. Yes, she’s pregnant and has severe morning sickness. I’m so worried I can’t sleep.

It was clear that most people there knew Jessica. Henry said they’d been together for two years, meaning Jessica was the one attending these events during that time. 

Jessica leaned on Henry, “Pregnancy isn’t as hard as my husband working. Marrying a man like Henry is the luck of a lifetime.” 

Everyone saw their loving and harmonious display. Laura smiled and nodded, “Mr. Johnson, those who treat their wives well will prosper. Your company will surely thrive!” 

Henry was delighted but stopped short when he saw me. His face went pale. 

It wasn’t my first time meeting Jessica. I remembered two years ago when she came to my house with a basket of farm eggs, saying they were from the countryside. I saw she used a basic phone and gave her the latest model. 

Jessica nearly stumbled and leaned on Henry. She probably feared me, thinking I was behind the banner at her school. But I wasn’t. I guessed it was Perseus. 

Henry rushed over to pull me out. I shook off his hand. 

“Ottilie Johnson! Are you here to ruin me? You’re a career woman, and you’re throwing a fit over this small marriage issue? Ruin me, and you’ll get nothing in the divorce!” 

As if not ruining him would get me a lot of money. 

“Henry, stop focusing on money. There’s a saying about not fighting for bread but for dignity.” 

Seeing me heading toward Laura, Henry growled, “I’ll leave with nothing. I’ll give you all the money the company made over the years! Just don’t ruin my company; it’s my life’s work!” 

Laura saw our tussle, her gaze on me. She approached and asked, “Are you looking for me?” 

She glanced at Henry’s hand gripping mine. Henry quickly let go. 

I said, “Yes, Ms. Edwards. I’ve heard so much about you. Can we take a photo together?” 

Henry hurriedly interjected, “Ms. Edwards, she’s my college classmate. I was just stopping her from disturbing you!” 

“How can such a small thing be a disturbance?” 

After the photo with Laura, I left. 

At the door, I saw Henry watching me nervously, and Jessica hiding behind him, not daring to show herself. 

I successfully got a divorce. Henry gave me all his assets except his company. In his eyes, as long as he kept the company, he could earn back the money he gave me. 

When I went to collect a house in the neighborhood, Jessica didn’t know it was given to me too, 

“This house was bought for me by Henry! What right do you have to take it?” she screamed at me, “You already got me expelled from school; what more do you want?” 

I left after taking a photo with Laura Edwards. At the door, Henry Johnson looked at me with a lingering sense of unease, while Jessica Thompson was awkwardly hiding behind him.
