Chapter 18 Wanting to Know Her
When Howard leaned in, Diana’s body tensed up for a second.
She glanced at Howard, puzzled, not sure what he was up to.
Diana didn’t turn around, so she missed the slight change in Benjamin’s expression when he heard Howard’s words.
Seeing Benjamin’s face darken, Howard happily pulled Diana into the car,
“Here you go.” Howard hung a crescent–shaped gem around Diana’s neck.
Diana was a bit taken aback. She reached out to touch the patterns on the gem, feeling at slight flutter in her otherwise calm heart.
“Thanks,” Diana said, keeping her cool.
“No problem.”
After that, the two stayed quiet for the rest of the ride.
James, while driving, kept sneaking glances at the silent Diana and Howard in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
James was curious about where were they. When Howard asked him to get the gem engraved for Diana, James was pretty surprised.
James remembered that Howard, who was always so cold, had never given anything to outsiders, especially not a special gift like a gem.
It seemed Howard had some special feelinge
for Diana.
Back at the Spencer Villa, Sophia was thrilled to see Diana and pulled her into a room to chat, while Howard and James headed to the study.
“How’s the Getty family doing?” Howard asked coolly, sitting behind the desk.
“Recently, Aiden wants to bid for the development rights of Serenity Manor,” James said,
Pulling out a stack of documents from his bag and handing them to Howard..
Serenity Manor? He’s got good taste.” Howard sneered.

Serenity Manor was Howard’s property, though not many knew about it. Lately, he had been thinking of selling it and turning it into a vacation resort.
“What’s his offer?” Howard casually flipped through the documents and placed them on
the desk.
Two million dollars,” James replied.
“Two million dollars? What does he think this is?”
James hesitated for a moment and said, “I looked into the Getty family. I heard their youngest daughter was recently hospitalized and needs money, so Aiden doesn’t have much liquid cash. Two million dollars is his limit.”
“In that case, double the price,” Howard said coldly, “I want to see the Getty family’s
limit.”
“Got it.” James nodded in agreement.
“Oh, and one more thing, look into Diana, Howard ordered.
Hearing that, James looked at Howard in surprise.
Howard looked up at James and smiled slightly. “She’s got a lot of secrets. Make sure to dig deep and report everything to me, no matter how small.”
Previously, Howard hadn’t looked into Diana much because he didn’t think it was necessary, as he had no interest in her.
But now that Diana was his wife, even if only in name, and since Sophia seemed to trust
her a lot.
Plus, he seemed to have a strange interest in Diana.
A cold glint flashed in Howard’s deep eyes, and he thought, ‘Diana, I hope you don’t have. any bad intentions in approaching me, otherwise…”
“What? The bid for Serenity Manor has been raised to five million dollars?” In the Getty Group’s CEO’s office, Aiden’s roar echoed.
“How could this be? Why did they suddenly raise the price so much?” Aiden asked his assistant incredulously.

The assistant shook his head, looking troubled. “Mr. Getty, a lot of companies want a piece of the Serenity Manor project. It’s normal for the price to go up; the highest bidder wins.
“Damn it!” Aiden snapped a pen in half, fuming.
After years in the business world, he knew how things worked. But he could only offer two million dollars and desperately needed the Serenity Manor property.
The sudden price hike caught him off guard.
“Can you get in touch with the owner of Serenity Manor? I need to meet him,” Aiden said, his face grim.
The assistant shook his head again. “Everyone knows the owner of Serenity Manor is very secretive. Even at the bidding venue, you can only meet the owner’s representative, not the owner himself.”
Aiden slumped into his office chair, rubbing his temples in frustration..
“Mrs. Getty, you can’t go in there!” Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside.
Before Aiden could react, the office door was forcefully pushed open.
“Aiden, Laura is still in the hospital. You need to come up with a solution!” into the office, shouting without any regard.

Aiden’s headache worsened, and he signaled to his assistant.
The assistant, understanding the cue, quickly left the office and closed the door behind him.
“Why are you shouting? We’re in the company,” Aiden said irritably.
“Laura is still waiting for a kidney transplant! Instead of finding a way to bring Diana back, you still have the nerve to come to work, Emily retorted sarcastically.
“If I don’t work, how will we pay for Laura’s surgery?” Aiden glared at Emily.
At the mention of the surgery costs, Emily’s face turned pale.
When Diana was still at home, she covered most of Laura’s surgery and treatment costs, and the Gettys accepted it without any qualms.

They even felt that it was Diana’s duty to do so.
But since Diana left the Getty family, she not only took many valuable antique vases but

froze the bank card she had given to Emily.
That bank card had several million dollars, all

“Now that Diana refuses to come back, Laura’s surgery can’t be delayed any longer!” Emily

Aiden frowned and said helplessly, “I know, but didn’t you hear Robert? She has married
Howard. We can’t easily deal with her.”
“Ridiculous! Howard is the richest man in Emerald City. He can have any woman he wants. How could he possibly go against the Getty family for a bitch?” Emily didn’t believe that Howard married Diana out of love, thinking Diana had nothing going for her except
her looks.
Thinking Howard could take an interest in Laura, Emily’s eyes gleamed with a sinister and
venomous smile.
Meanwhile, it took Diana five days to finally restore the huge painting.
Diana put down her restoration brush, rubbed her sore shoulders, and walked out of the
dimly lit workshop.
“Diana, you’ve worked hard. Have some water,” Benjamin said, holding out a cup of water to Diana, his eyes sparkling.
