Chapter 8
I pulled my hand away, and Kyle immediately wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
Ethan’s expression darkened when he noticed the ring on Kyle’s finger. “Are you two serious?”
Kyle simply scoffed in response.N
But Ethan’s anger flared, and he swung a punch at Kyle’s face.N
Kyle caught his fist effortlessly and executed a perfect throw, sending Ethan crashing to the ground, clutching his back in pain.
“Kyle, is this your idea of helping me win him back?” Ethan groaned, trying to suppress his discomfort.”
Kyle chuckled as he helped Ethan to his feet. “I never said I’d help you. I told you to get lost.”
Ethan’s eyes were filled with rage as he glanced between us before yanking my hand towards him. “Emma, I can buy you something better. Just take that off.”
He looked at me with such desperation that, if it had been in the past, my heart would have shattered.”
But this wasn’t the past.”
I withdrew my hand and met his gaze firmly. “I like this one. I’ll send you an invitation for the wedding.“”
A single tear rolled down Ethan’s cheek as I closed the door on him.”
He knocked a few times, but I ignored him until silence fell.
Feeling unsettled, I didn’t want to talk much.
Kyle prepared a comforting meal that lifted my spirits a little.
After dinner, he went upstairs and returned with a box.
“Here,” he said, handing it to me. “If you need some reassurance, I hope this helps.”
He left the box behind and walked away.
Inside were ten letters, each addressed to me but never sent.
Some were old; some were new.
My heart sank as I realized what they were.”
Just then, my phone rang with an unfamiliar number but a familiar voice on the other end. “Emma, we need to talk.”
My calm demeanor shattered again at the sound of his voice. “What do you want?“}
There was silence on the line before I hung up in frustration.}
Almost immediately, the doorbell rang.”
When I opened the door, it was Ethan again, and I let him in.”
We needed some closure on our relationship.
He stepped inside and looked around, tears welling up in his eyes as he took in our former home–the place where we had shared so many memories.@
I had already cried over it; now wasn’t the time for nostalgia.
“Let’s talk, Ethan,” I said firmly as I sat on the couch. “Then you can leave.“}
Ethan sat beside me, looking forlorn as he gazed into my eyes. “Emma, are you really going to marry him? Do you even know who he is?“\\
I shot him a look that told him to get to the point.”
It turned out Kyle was a close family friend of Ethan’s father.
Ethan’s father had always been absent in his life, only reaching out after Ethan’s company became successful.
Kyle was introduced to Ethan through his father.”
Knowing that Kyle was quite capable in business, Ethan kept in touch with him.”
“Emma,” Ethan–scoffed with disdain, “do you think he truly loves you? He’s just playing games; don’t be fooled–he has plenty of other women.“}]
His intensity made me uneasy, so I quickly texted Kyle for reassurance but received only three question marks in reply.”
Ethan saw my hesitation and seized the moment to grab my hand earnestly. “Emma, I’m the one who truly loves you! My relationship with that woman is purely circumstantial!”
His heartfelt plea painted him as a victim in this scenario.
But when I saw Kyle appear behind him, I knew I didn’t need to say anything more.”
I told him where to find my spare key hidden under the welcome mat at the door without needing to explain further.”
