Chapter 6
I landed in Cordon City four hours later, and a colleague came to pick me up. I didn’t expect him to be a classmate from middle school.
“I didn’t expect to see you here, Sean. It’s been a long time I said.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw Sean Tate. He was completely different from the kid I remembered from middle school. Now tall and handsome, he attracted attention just by standing there.
I’d frequently seen his updates on social media, so I could vaguely recognize him.
Sean approached me with a bright smile. He seemed to light the place up. “I didn’t expect to see you, either. I’m surprised you remember me.”
His eyes twinkled as he looked at me. We caught up as we left the airport. I learned that we were supposed to attend the same high school. However, his family had moved to Cordon City before the semester started due to his father’s sudden work transfer.
That night, Sean threw me a small welcoming party with the rest of our colleagues. Throughout the meal, he kept looking after me, even peeling shrimp for me.
I’d been worried about not being able to fit in after moving to a new city alone, so having Sean around was a nice surprise. I felt very comfortable around him, and he made me relax.
On the way home, he said hesitantly, Cordon City?”
Theard you were about to get married. Why did you suddenly come to
I said frankly, “I’ve ended the relationship. He and I weren’t suited for each other.”
He pursed his lips, looking a little embarrassed as he apologized. “I’m sorry to hear that. How about I treat you to dinner tomorrow as an apology?”

“It’s fine. I’ve already moved on.” I seemed to see Sean’s eyes light up at my words.
I grew accustomed to life in Cordon City faster than I expected. With Sean’s help, things at the branch company soon took off. I was so busy every day that I didn’t have time to think about my horrid past.
It was too bad that my past soon caught up with me. Harold had somehow managed to find out about my new workplace. He waited for me at the entrance after work one day. I turned to leave when I saw him, but he stood in my way. “Why are you hiding from me, Minerva?”
I had no choice but to face him. “We’ve already broken up. What are you doing here?”
He looked at me with a forced smile. “I’ve been looking for you for days. Is that the first thing you want to say to me now that we’re reunited? Besides, I didn’t agree to the breakup. You can’t selfishly decide what happens to our relationship, Minerva. We were about to get married, weren’t we?”
I looked at him icily. “That was just playing house at a pizzeria, not a wedding.”
Harold laughed in relief when he heard that. “Was that what’s been bothering you? You’re throwing a tantrum because you’re not happy with the wedding! Fine, then. We can prepare for another one.
“Let’s have a grand affair this tinie. I’ll announce to everyone I know that you’re the one who has my heart. Is that good enough for you?”
I sneered. “I’ll be happy as long as you’re not the groom at my wedding.”
