Chapter 7
Luke growled, “I can!
“You don’t believe in my love, do you? I’ll keep proving it to you.”
He didn’t understand me at all, and I no longer cared about sparing his feelings.
I said, “You can’t drag this on forever. Once my vacation is over, I’ll start divorce proceedings.
“Whether it’s a divorce by agreement or one initiated by lawsuit, you can choose.”
Luke was depressed. “Is divorce the only option?”
I nodded. “Yes, it’s the only option.”
Luke slumped back onto the bed and looked at me with reluctance.
I wasn’t seeking revenge through divorce. I just no longer had feelings for him.
There was no need for us to continue this partnership.
Even if he did have a change of heart, it was too late.

I opened the umbrella and stepped into the heavy rain, hoping that he would understand my words.
But as I scrolled through my social media feed, I came across a photo posted by Jessica.
It was a scenic shot from Olisfast, not far from where I lived.
[I want to give my baby the best education, so I’ve decided to return to where he was born.]
The first comment was from Luke.
[I want to see you.]
Jessica replied: [We can’t meet again. The baby’s father wouldn’t like it.]
The rain suddenly grew heavier.
My fingers were cold and slippery, and I nearly dropped my phone.
I wasn’t sure how to react to his comment.
It felt ridiculous and cold.
Luke hadn’t changed. He was still the same indecisive man, straddling the fence.
I didn’t care to investigate whether he went abroad for me or her.

Nor did I want to examine his poor acting skills.
He hadn’t won Jessica’s heart, and through his constant wavering, he had only pushed me further away.
Wanting everything meant losing everything.

I blocked Jessica and turned off my screen, walking home alone.
When the holiday ended, I resumed my normal routine. Luke was at the community entrance, greeting me without fail as if nothing had happened.
It seemed that after being rejected by Jessica yesterday, he was trying his luck with me today.
He never respected me or Jessica.
Having seen through his opportunistic nature, I grew even more indifferent to him.
When I arrived at my desk, Jake sent me a message.
There had been some disturbances in the neighborhood where I lived recently, and he reminded me to stay alert.
Crime rates in Olisfast weren’t as low as in my home country, so I thanked him and planned to go home early.
Jake had offered to drive me home, but I refused.

He was diligent at work and polite, but he was just a colleague.
I didn’t want to cause him unnecessary trouble, and besides, I wasn’t divorced yet.
If we became too close, it would invite gossip, and Luke already had his prejudices about him.
On my way home, I began to feel like someone was following
Ever since leaving the office, I had the eerie sense that I was being watched.
- me.
By the time I reached my neighborhood, I could hear footsteps behind me.
I regretted not accepting Jake’s offer. I needed to prioritize my life over my reputation.
I quickly dialed Jake.
He picked up after three rings and asked what was wrong.
I didn’t want to alert whoever was following me, so I spoke softly and realized I was trembling.
I whispered, “Someone is following me. Can you come over? I’ll send you my location.”
