The man nodded at me in satisfaction before threatening Patricia, “I’ll come by to take the house in a few days. If you dare to try and stop me, you old hag, I won’t go easy on you!”
Patricia jumped in fright, but once they were gone, she resumed her usual unreasonable self and started rebuking me.
“Martin’s father and I used nearly all of our life’s savings to buy that house! How could you give it to them? I wish I never allowed Martin to marry a wife like you!”
“Martin is going to prison, Mom,” I said sorrowfully. Instead of giving them the house, am I supposed to just stand by and do nothing while they force us to repay them?”
Patricia was so pissed that she couldn’t speak.
However, since I wasn’t responsible for any of Martin’s debts, the debt collectors had to go looking for Patricia. Whenever they saw her in the neighborhood, walking around the park, or even just out on the streets, they would start beating her up. After a few days, not a single inch of her skin remained unscathed.
She had no choice but to repay Martin’s debts, but she didn’t have that much money, so she had to borrow from her relatives. Alas, the videos of her previous actions had gone viral online, and all of her relatives mocked her.
“You sure know how to make empty promises. Martin’s already in prison, so how are you going to pay us back? If I donated that money, at least I know it’d be going to a good cause.“‘
“He’s right. You guys are a bunch of heartless monsters!”
“Poor Louise. How unlucky for her that she ended up marrying into your family!”
No one was willing to lend Patricia any money, so when the debt collectors came by again, they took everything they could. Anything that they couldn’t take, they destroyed. Soon, the house looked like it had been hit by a tornado.
No matter how domineering and unruly Patricia could be, all she could do now was hug Daniel and try to scare them off by causing a scene.
“No! You can’t take the television!”
“Even the toilet paper? Why are you doing this? Why are you treating an old lady like me so terribly?”
Alas, her pitiful act didn’t work on these men. She tried to stop them physically, but a few burly men scared her off. She was so terrified that she fainted.
Once the debt collectors had taken what they wanted, I walked over to Patricia and pinched her. She woke up
with a loud yelp. Once she looked around and saw the empty house, she started wailing her heart out again.
Ignoring her, I threw the divorce agreement at her face.
“Mom–Oh, wait. I don’t have to call you ‘Mom‘ anymore. Martin and I are officially divorced. Here are the divorce papers. It clearly states that I relinquish all my rights to custody of Daniel.”

Patricia’s eyes bulged. She never expected the divorce agreement Martin had made as part of his ploy to end up biting her in the ass like that.
“Where’s your conscience?” she shrieked. “Martin was only sent to prison not too long ago, and you’re already divorcing him? How can you be so heartless?”
As I took in her rebukes, I wiped my tears while pretending to be sorrowful. “Hasn’t all of Martin’s money gone to you? In any case, he cheated on me. Am I supposed to stay with him for the rest of my life despite that?”
Patricia stiffened. She probably realized she couldn’t use that against me. Nevertheless, she quickly changed tactics by screaming, “What about Danny? Have you lost your mind? You’re abandoning your own son! Aren’t you afraid that Danny will hate you for the rest of your life for being such an irresponsible mother?”
He would hate me, huh?
I snorted. Why would I care about someone else’s son hating me?
I had already felt puzzled as to why Daniel didn’t seem all that close to me but would willingly stand beside Whitney. Plus, why did the little girl behind Whitney look so much like me?
The truth dawned on me once I saw the DNA test report that fell out of the document folder in the cab the other day. Daniel was Whitney and Martin’s son!
They started sleeping together ages ago and even switched my baby at the hospital. Daniel wasn’t related to me in any way. Well, I wasn’t about to raise the child of the man who cheated on me!
“By the way, didn’t you say that as long as you refuse to move, they can’t do anything to an old lady like you even though you don’t have the deed to the house? You can just stay here,” I said with an innocent expression.
True enough, the debt collectors were infuriated to hear that Patricia didn’t intend to move out!
