While clutching her ankle, she screamed at me, “You bitch! What did we ever do to you? Why were we cursed to end up with a daughter–in–law like you? Instead of supporting your husband, you delivered fake evidence to the authorities so that he would end up in prison!”
With a look of pure innocence, I argued, “How can you say that? Wasn’t it Martin who said he committed a robbery and caused the death of Whitney’s husband. He said he was the reason why she became a widow and had to look after her child alone. How can the evidence be false?”
The residents in the neighborhood caught wind of the commotion and came over to see what was going on. Some even started recording videos and broadcasting the situation live.
Still pretending to be confused, I asked, “Oh, right. Isn’t Whitney here? Since she’s the wife of the deceased victim, she can be a witness too. I know you’re upset about Martin, Mom, but we shouldn’t come up with ridiculous lies! Just yesterday, you said that our family is ruined. You asked Martin to turn himself in too!”
The words that came out of my mouth flew like missiles right at Patricia. She couldn’t refute me. Meanwhile, all eyes fell on Whitney, and even Patricia’s eyes lit up when she heard what I said. It was as if she found her savior.

Chapter 3
She grabbed Whitney’s hand in excitement. “That’s right! Whitney, you just need to come forward as a witness and admit that everything you said earlier was a lie. Say that it was just a wrongful accusation.
That way,
I’m sure we can save Martin from prison. Come. Let’s go to the police station right away!”
Patricia tried to drag Whitney off, to no avail. Whitney remained rooted to the spot. Her face was pale. She wasn’t a fool. The police had evidence that Martin had indeed committed a crime. If she went over there now, she would only be causing trouble for herself.
After all, technically speaking, she was also involved in the robbery that Martin did commit back then.
Daniel was also tearfully grabbing a fistful of Whitney’s clothes. He pleaded, “Hurry up and save my daddy, Ms. Lewis. I can’t live without Daddy…”
While Patricia and Daniel cried their hearts out, cameras kept flashing as the crowd continued to take photos of the situation.
Alas, Whitney simply looked around evasively without saying a word. Agitated, Patricia started rebuking
her.
“You bitch! You’re such a bitch! It’s all your fault. If you hadn’t seduced him, he never would’ve come up with the rotten idea of pretending to be a criminal! Now that he’s going to prison, don’t think I’ll let you get off scot–free either. I’m going to kill you!”
Patricia scratched Whitney’s face up with her fingerffails, making Whitney shriek in pain. She was no match for a woman like Patricia who was used to a life of hard labor. Soon, Whitney could do nothing but squeal in agony as Patricia bashed her up.
On the other hand, after hearing what Patricia said, I pretended to be thunderstruck. While vehemently shaking my head, I cried out, “Mom! Is that true? You’re saying that Martin cheated on me? H–How could it be? T–That’s impossible! Why would my own husband lie to me?”
I took a step back in disbelief and purposely raised my voice.
