Day after day passed in the pet hospital.
The medication kept me alive but had side effects. To avoid worrying Emma, I always endured the pain.
It was already late autumn. Emma braved the cold wind every day, working two jobs to cover my medical expenses.
When she couldn’t bear it anymore, she would hold me and cry,
“Soon, Rachel. I’ll make them pay for what they did.”
The news of Rose killing me had spread, but she was released due to lack of evidence.
I knew the power of the Carter family was not something an ordinary person like Emma could fight against.
“That bastard Adrian is actually going to marry the woman who killed his wife and child.
My heart was already riddled with wounds. I moved with difficulty, unable to give any response.
Nestled in Emma’s arms, I watched her angrily scrolling through news about the Evans Group CEO marrying the Carter family’s daughter. I nuzzled her with my head.
Emma’s attention turned to me, and she said softly,
“Is Rachel bored? Mommy will take you out for a walk.”
My nose stung. Back when we played house at the orphanage, Emma always insisted on being the mom.
As soon as we went out, we bumped into someone.
Adrian was standing at the door. After not seeing him for several months, he looked much more haggard, with dark circles under his eyes. As soon as the door opened, he
being the mom.
As soon as we went out, we bumped into someone.
Adrian was standing at the door. After not seeing him for several months, he looked
much more haggard, with dark circles under his eyes. As soon as the door opened, he stared intently at me in Emma’s arms.
I instinctively tried to hide, and his outstretched hand stopped in mid–air.
Adrian spoke in a hoarse voice, “Talk to me.”
“Whoever you are,
you are, talk to me right now. Using Rachel’s voice.”
Emma looked at him as if he were crazy: “Adrian, if you’re sick, go get treatment. Don’t
come here scaring our Rachel!”
“Rachel?” Adrian repeated the new name Emma had given me, the pain in his eyes deepening.
“My wife isn’t dead, what right do you have to give her name to a cat?!”
Adrian had a history of migraines. Whenever he got too excited, he would have an attack, and in severe cases, he would experience memory disturbances and hallucinations.
Perhaps he still only believed that I was alive.
Watching him become increasingly obsessive, I called out to him once in my heart, as if admitting defeat.
Adrian seemed to stare right through me. “…Rachel, where are you? Where’s my wife?”
Rose rushed over breathlessly with the wolfhound. She grabbed Adrian,
“Adrian, stop this. Come with me to the hospital. The doctor says your mental state is very unstable right now!”
But Adrian shook her off coldly and walked straight towards the empty corridor on the right, saying with certainty,

right, saying with certainty,
“Another day. Not today. My wife is already waiting there. I should go home with her.”
The bodyguards who had followed looked at each other in confusion. “Miss, the young master, he…”
“Follow him. Take him home,” Rose commanded with a gloomy expression, watching Adrian’s figure gradually disappear.
She turned her head towards us.
“Isn’t this Emma? I heard you even named this cat Rachel?” Rose sneered,
“If Rachel knew from the underworld, she’d be on her knees thanking you.”
“It’s none of your business!” Emma had tucked me into her clothes since earlier, warily eyeing Rose’s wolfhound.
Rose waved her hand, “How boring.”
“But this young lady came here specifically to bully people today. From now on, I’ve bought out all the pet hospitals in A City. Take your cat and get out!”
Just as an argument was about to break out, the doctor called out:
“Who’s Rachel? It’s time for her medication!”
Emma hurriedly took me towards the examination room, but Rose blocked our way.
“Didn’t you hear what I said? Get out!”
In the tussle, I curled up into a ball, my consciousness starting to fade again. Emma saw me close my eyes and panicked. She shoved Rose aside.
The wolfhound, seeing its owner being pushed, bared its teeth and lunged forward.
Emma was knocked to the ground, and I fell out of her arms. The wolfhound’s eyes lit up.

With a “puff” sound, two bloody holes appeared on my body.
“Rachel!” Emma cried, trying to protect me, but Rose stepped on her fingers.
“Emma, this is what happens when you go against me. I’ll send you to meet Rachel right
now.”
She had a smug smile on her face, but she didn’t notice that the wolfhound behind her, stimulated by the blood, had turned its red eyes towards her back.
“Ahhhh-” Rose’s piercing scream echoed through the corridor. Soon, people reacted and came to save her.
With a “crack,” the wolfhound withdrew its sharp teeth. Rose’s face still wore an expression of terror, her entire shoulder and neck bent at an angle impossible for a living person.
She fell heavily to the ground, and the wolfhound crouched at her broken neck, greedily licking the gushing blood.
The security guards finally arrived and shot the dangerous wolfhound on the spot.
