Glaring at the doctor, Caleb asked furiously, “Where is she? Where has she gone?”
Wiping away the sweat on his forehead, the doctor answered shakily, “M–Mr. Grant, didn’t you hear from your mother and your assistant? Ms. Wells developed adverse reactions after the operation, and she has already passed
away.”
In an instant, the color completely drained from Caleb’s face.
A long while later, his body began to tremble violently. Gnashing his teeth, he shouted, “How can that be? Stop lying to me! Tell me! You transferred her to another ward, right? Who allowed you to do that without my permission?”
The doctor fell silent, unable to say a word. Caleb was panicking now, and when he saw the doctor’s behavior, he said harshly, “I said, tell me! You hear me?”
I didn’t know if I was hearing things, but despite Caleb’s harsh tone, his voice was also subconsciously shaking. Sighing, the doctor said, “Mr. Grant, we have no reason to lie to you about these things. That’s the plain truth. Ms. Wells‘ mother has retrieved her corpse, and she must have been cremated by now…‘

Cremated?
The urn!
Caleb suddenly recalled grabbing the urn from my mom and flinging it down the bridge, and also the frenzied state my mom was in.
For an instant, he almost lost his balance.
The doctor continued, “Ms. Wells has been dead for days now, but you never came to visit her, so of course, you didn’t know that…”
Caleb staggered a little as he let go of the doctor.
A moment later, Caleb’s eyes turned red, and his expression was contorted even more.
Caleb punched the wall nearby with so much force that the wall caved in a little.
Abandoning his pride, he shouted, “Didn’t you say that it’ll be fine? You said that she’ll be okay, right? Why… Why did she die? Why?”
As Caleb roared, he began smashing the things in the ward and flinging them onto the floor.
Several members of the hospital staff came over when they heard the commotion. Then, they hastily held Caleb down.
The doctor was so frightened that his face turned pale. Gulping, he said carefully, “M–Mr. Grant, we didn’t guarantee that she’ll be fine… We just said that she’d be okay if the operation was handled properly. Sadly, Ms. Wells was just too weak…”
Caleb suddenly stopped struggling. He slowly lowered his body, and a defeated expression appeared on his face. To my surprise, his face was filled with tears.
Caleb choked as he said, “Give her back to me… Give her back… Give her back to me!”
