My mom was right.

I smiled bitterly as I gazed at my lifeless body and its hardly protruding abdomen.

It was around three days ago when I knew about the child.

When I joyously told Caleb the news, he didn’t look as happy as I had anticipated.

On the contrary, after I gave him the news, his expression had instantly darkened.

Caleb had shouted angrily at me, “Didn’t I tell you to take protective measures? Why didn’t you listen? Who allowed you to have my child?”

His twisted expression was filled with hatred back then, and it had instantly broken my heart.

We had been married for so long, but I had never seen him lose control like that before.

When I froze on the spot, Caleb seemed to have suddenly realized what he had just said.

Softening his expression, he had said in a gentler tone, “Liddy… I mean… I’m not ready for a baby yet…”

I had felt a little uneasy inside, but I didn’t dare ask too much when I heard his explanation.

Now when I thought about it, he hated me and thought that I was the culprit behind Eva’s misfortune, so how could he possibly look forward to the birth of our child?

When he tried his best to treat my cancer, I assumed that he was finally responding to my earnest feelings.

However, now that I thought about it, if my kidney hadn’t matched Eva’s body, or if Caleb hadn’t thought that I owed Eva something, I would probably have died a year ago.

My mom seemed to have aged overnight. She stumbled and struggled to handle my affairs after my death.

She seemed to have gotten much older since I died.

It was cloudy on the day she settled the arrangements.

As soon as my mom went out the door, she bumped into Eva, who had been unconscious for more than a year.

Eva looked much better compared to before.

My mom had been trying to contact Caleb so that she could get my things back from him. She just wanted my things to remember me by.

When my mom saw Eva, she was overwhelmed with emotion as she ran up to the latter. She called out to Eva in slight helplessness, “Ms. Lane… Do you remember me? I’m Liddy’s mom…”

Eva had a look of disgust on her face when she realized who was talking to her. She said in a slightly harsh tone, “Who are you? Do you know who I am? Did you think I’d remember any random person on the streets?”

My mom lowered her head uneasily as she begged, “Please, Ms. Lane, you must have convinced Mr. Grant, right? Please tell him that I just want to get Liddy’s belongings back… Please, even if it’s only because Liddy gave you her kidney…”

Eva scoffed when she heard that. “And so what if she gave me her kidney? She owed me that much!”
