As soon as the urn made contact with the ground, it shattered into pieces.
Just then, some wind picked up and scattered the ashes all over the ground.
My mom’s eyes turned red as she screamed, “No!”
She wailed at the top of her lungs, her hands reaching toward the bottom of the bridge. She even looked as if she might fall off the bridge.
“My baby Liddy! My precious Liddy!” My mom cried her heart out. She choked in pain as she said, “Oh, Liddy, why did you fall for someone like that…”
My heart ached as if someone were repeatedly stabbing it with a knife. I wished I could just materialize and protect my mom.
However, I no longer had the chance to do that.
Caleb was startled by my mom’s behavior.
He frowned, and a bad feeling began to well up in his heart.
My mom’s voice had turned hoarse from the crying. With reddened eyes, she said, “Caleb! Liddy loved you so much
How could you bring yourself to kill her? And you wouldn’t even have mercy on her ashes…”
Trying his best to suppress the uneasiness in his heart, Caleb pretended to be calm as he said, “Quit pretending! I can expose you with just a phone call!”
So, he called up his assistant, David Smith. “Answer me, David! Has Lydia woken up or not?”
David was silent for a moment. Then, he said with slight hesitation, “Mr. Grant, I only found out after arriving at the hospital that… Ms. Wells has passed away.”
When Caleb heard that, he was stunned for a long while.

Sometime later, his expression darkened. “What’s this, David? Did Lydia bribe you too? Why are you playing along with her too?”
David was speechless at Caleb’s response. He was about to explain when Caleb barked, “If you dare play these tricks around me again, you should just get lost!”
I felt something weighing on my chest when I heard Caleb’s words. It seemed as if Caleb would have emotional outbursts whenever I was concerned.
David was silent for a long while. He didn’t know what else he could say.
Caleb panicked a little, but still, he said in a stern voice, “Get someone to take Lydia’s mom to the hospital! She’s out of her mind, and she keeps pestering Evie!”
There was a faint glint of hatred in Eva’s eyes when she saw Caleb’s behavior, but in the next second, she said in a gentle voice, “Forget it, Cal. It’s in the past now. I don’t want to keep holding Lydia and her mom responsible… By
Cal?” the way, I’m really craving a taste of your stew. Take me home, won’t you,
Caleb was a little troubled at first, but when he heard Eva’s words, he calmed down a little.
He couldn’t help but feel a little bad for Eva when he saw her pitiful behavior. His voice softened as he said, Alright, Evie. You’re finally getting better, after all. This calls for a celebration.”
With that, he held Eva’s hand and slowly walked away.
I watched them walk off and then looked at my mom, who was barely holding on. I felt my broken heart aching again.
I had been married to Caleb for so many years, and it was bad enough that he schemed against me, but I couldn’t believe that he would be so heartless toward my mom, too.
When my mother–in–law, Carol Brown, came to visit me at the hospital, the nurse informed her of my death. If anyone in that house ever cared about me, it would be Carol.
The nurse sighed in sympathy. “Her stomach cancer was finally cured, but because her family had urged her to donate her kidney, she didn’t make it and passed away in the end. Poor thing! She even had a baby in her belly…”
Yes, my poor little baby didn’t even get to see this world before they left.
Carol was stunned when she heard that. She asked in a trembling voice, “What… What do you mean? Who told her to donate her kidney?”
After thinking for a long while, the nurse replied, “I believe the last name was Grant…”
