Chapter 5
The color drained from Carol’s face as she rushed home in a hurry.
When Carol arrived home, Caleb was feeding Eva some stew
With reddened eyes, Carol shoved the bowl onto the floor. She couldn’t stop herself from trembling as she said in a sobbing voice, “Caleb! You monster! You knew that slie hadn’t fully recovered yet, so why would you force her to donate her kidney to Eva? Did you know that your actions have killed her?”
Caleb was expressionless as he picked up the bowl on the floor. Then, he said coldly, “Are you out of your mind too, Mom? Lydia owed Eva a kidney, anyway! Also, did you take me for a fool? The doctor already said that the operation won’t kill her! Why are you playing along with her, anyway?”
Carol’s chest heaved in fury. Unable to bear it any longer, she delivered a slap across Caleb’s face. “It has been days since then. Have you ever asked about Lydia’s health at all?
Carol had put all her strength into that slap, so Caleb’s face was slapped to the side, and his cheek was beginning to swell.
Touching his face, Caleb smiled coldly and said, “She’s fine, so why would I bother? I was the one who spent money to extend her life, anyway! So what if she actually died?”
Gripping Caleb’s collar, Carol trembled as she said, “Did you know… Did you know that Liddy is pregnant with your child? You’ve killed both Liddy and her child…”
Caleb was silent for a long while. Then, he said, “How can I possibly accept the child of the culprit who hurt Evie?”
Carol shook Caleb’s collar firmly as she screamed, “How heartless can you be? They’ve already figured out that it wasn’t Liddy’s doing…”
When Caleb heard that, his gaze faltered a little. He froze for a moment before saying in a low voice, “Enough! I know her true colors! She’s just jealous of Eva, and that’s why she hurt Eva on purpose!”
