Chapter 8
Minerva didn’t pay her any more attention and instead pulled out her phone
to make a call.
A moment later, she shot back, “Excuse me, but your daughter hasn‘ t received her admission letter, right? Bragging and lying right in front of your kid–you‘ re honestly such a terrible parent.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?!”
“Nonsense? Feel free to check the official website. Stratford International Academy sent out their admission letters half a
month ago. With a mother like you, do you really think your daughter deserves to get in?”
“And who do you think you are? What do you know? I don‘ t believe you!”
Whitney anxiously searched the official website, desperate to confirm whether the admission letters had indeed already been

sent out.
In the end, her face turned pale as she saw that her daughter’s name was not on the list of admitted students.
Minerva chuckled next to me. “Mrs. Hannigan, don‘ t I look a bit familiar? You sure left quite the impression on me.”
“Who the hell are you? And how do you know my daughter didn’t get in?!”
S
“You brought your daughter to me for her interview, remember? Honestly, she didn’t show much promise ‘cause you. kept cutting her off every time she tried to answer my questions. In the end, I had to ask you to leave. Your daughter? She could barely handle basic communication. It‘ st obvious her critical thinking skills aren’t there yet. And with the way you parent her, no wonder your relationship is so strained. Oh, and the things you said to my mom? Let me say them back to you: be careful, or one day your child might just abandon you, too.”

Whitney froze, and after a moment, it finally hit her where she’d seen Minerva before.
“Leanne, you really need to do a better job raising your kid. Otherwise, she might end up as hopeless as you.”

“Well, like mother, like daughter. Back
then, she ditched her real mom for that homewrecker. Honestly, she should‘ ve seen this coming.”
“She didn’t even get into Stratford International Academy, huh? And yet Leanne’s been bragging nonstop about how talented and brilliant her daughter was!”
The murmurs from the crowd made Leanne’s face turn red, then pale. She was trembling with anger.
“I don’t believe it! My daughter is so talented! You‘ re just abusing your power to get back at me because of Leanna. You sabotaged my daughter’s application! I‘ 11

go to the media and expose you!”
“If you‘ re questioning the results, well, I can release the video of your daughter‘ s interview. But are you sure you want to go down this path? Once the video‘ s out, everyone will see how mediocre she is and how poor her communication skills are. You might be even more embarrassed than
you are now.”
“Shut up!” Whitney snapped. “Aren‘ t you done humiliating me? How could I have a mother like you?!”
Leanne froze, staring at her daughter in shock, completely unable to process the fact that those words had come out of her daughter’s mouth.
I stood there watching the whole thing, cold and indifferent. After 20 long years, karma had finally caught up to Leanne. To be hurt by her child–now she could experience this bone–deep pain for herself.
Willow gently patted Leanne’s shoulder,

trying to calm her down, before leading their family to their seats.
“Willie, why didn’t you stand up for me? Let’s just leave! Why should we stay for her stupid birthday party?!” Whitney. hissed.
“Don’t be immature. We didn’t come here to celebrate her 50th birthday. We came for Mr. Chadbourne. We haven’t met him in person yet. If Leanna badmouths us to him, everything we‘ ve worked for will go down the drain.
When Willow noticed Duncan’s gaze lingering on him, he quickly smiled in his direction.
Duncan then smiled at me and said,
“Mom, the show‘ s just getting started.”
Not long after, Willow got a phone call. His expression changed dramatically, and he stood up in a panic before walking toward
- me.
“What the hell did you do?! Why did Mr.
