“First, Melissa may not be the killer.” Officer John raised his voice. “Second, we’ll assign officers to protect you both. Neither you nor your daughter will be in any danger.”
“It’s not enough!” My mother shouted. “It’s been eight years! Eight years, and she’s still out there killing. Can you protect Angel for eight more years? I need to see Melissa die in front of me, or I will never be at peace!”
My heart was broken into pieces, and I found it hard to breathe despite being dead.
“Calm down. I need you to go out there and clarify things. You’re a reporter. Yet, you abuse your position for your personal vendetta without any clear evidence. How absurd is that?” Officer John mocked sharply.
“Clarify? By the time you get the results, you’ll see I was right!” Then, my mother left in a huff.
She stuffed herself back in her car and started tapping furiously on her phone, sending out our chat records, my photos, and a long post to condemn me.
Her actions stirred up a massive reaction. Within minutes, her post was trending. People everywhere were calling me a monster and accusing the police of protecting a criminal.
My mother smiled in satisfaction after seeing the outcome. ‘Since they can’t bring you down, I’ll do it myself. You can’t escape.”
At that moment, her phone rang. It was Officer John.
His voice was icy. “Delete that post and apologize now, Elina! Do you have any idea how much trouble you’ve caused? There’s now a crowd at our door demanding that we arrest Melissa immediately.”
“That’s what I want,” my mother said coldly. “You can sympathize with the murderer all you want, but I can’t.”
“Why can’t you just understand? You could have waited until the case was closed to make this public!” Officer John gritted his teeth. “One more thing. Where was Angel at 9 p.m. on the 14th?”

Chapter The Killer’s Identity
That time was exactly when the killer sent that photo.
My mother was confused by his question, but she still answered without hesitation, “She was at home studying.”
