Chapter 73
At first, Jason didn’t believe a word from a child of just a few years old. But when Lenore placed a grand blueprint before him and spoke with unwavering confidence and extraordinary ideas, Jason was utterly astounded.
Then, the Heartland Chamber of Commerce was born. With Lenore, barely seven or eight years old, strategizing behind the scenes, the Heartland Chamber of Commerce quickly gained a foothold and even went public within a few years.
Lenore was too young to be taken seriously, so she entrusted everything to him.
Jason always thought that one day he would return the business empire of the Heartland Chamber of Commerce to Lenore, but she never wanted it. After much persuasion, Lenore only reluctantly agreed to take on the role of successor.
Lenore originally came out of boredom, to give Jason some face and meet the mysterious fifth director. Now that she had seen him, she found it quite dull.
“What century are we in that we’re still playing the gender card?” She shot a frosty look at William and the other two, idly spinning her phone between her fingers, a cold laugh slipping from her throat that sent shivers down their backs.
She slightly tilted her head and said to Jason, “These three directors can be fired.” Her tone was offhand, but there was an unmistakable swagger to it
“Fire us? Who do you think you are?”
“Do you really think we’ll believe you’re the founder of the Heartland Chamber of Commerce with just a few words?”
“We are the first–generation directors of the Heartland Chamber of Commerce board; even Jason wouldn’t dare to fire us!”
The three of them stood up abruptly, slapping the tables with their mineral water bottles, creating a loud noise.
“Is that so?” Lenore’s lips twisted into a smirk, radiating a natural, chilling malice. Then congratulations. You’ve just become the first batch of directors to get the boot from the Heartland Chamber of Commerce.”
Daniel sneered. “I’ve only heard of the board dismissing the chairman, but I’ve never heard of the chairman dismissing the board members!”
Lenore rose to her feet, her eyes gleaming with predatory hunger as she surveyed the group, her thin lips curving. “Then let the Heartland Chamber of Commerce set this precedent!”
Each word landed with conviction and force. Her presence dominated the room, like a queen surveying her kingdom, commanding respect. With her statement made, she slipped her hands into her pockets, tipped her hat lower, and strode out of the conference room.
The conference room fell silent for a long while. Joseph was the first to snap out of it and hurriedly chased after her.
Jason called his assistant. “Convene a press conference at the fastest speed.”
The turmoil in the Heartland Chamber of Commerce board would undoubtedly attract countless gazes; since it couldn’t be hidden, it would be openly disclosed.
Seeing that he was actually going through with it, Ben and the others felt their hearts drop, their disbelief kicking in. “Jason, we’re the directors of the Heartland Chamber of Commerce; you’re seriously firing us over a girl? Have you gone crazy?”
They relied on their status as Heartland Chamber of Commerce directors to stand above others, and even the governor treated them with courtesy. If they were truly fired, they would lose face completely and wouldn’t be able to continue in the business world,
Daniel’s face turned dark. “What precedent? Talk big, huh?”
William’s gaze was gloomy. “Jason, by firing us, are you not afraid that the Heartland Chamber of Commerce will go bankrupt?”
Silas let out a cold laugh, placing the black ring from the palm of his left hand back onto the little finger of his right hand. He stood up gracefully straightened the wrinkles in his clothes. “With me, it won’t go bankrupt.”

undergoing restructuring; the expansion plans are on hold. Mr. Yarwood, you should go back and wait for news.”
He spoke as quickly as he could, not caring about Stephen’s reaction, and then he moved past him to leave.
Before the elevator doors closed, Joseph squeezed in. He first gave Lenore a thumbs–up, his eyes filled with admiration.
Lenore glanced at him. “Idiot.”
Joseph didn’t mind. “Are you still going to check on Lifeline Charity?”
Lethe had already arrived in Senanville. Lenore replied to her message, then looked up and answered Joseph, “No.”
