Chapter 10
At that moment, there was no trace of coldness Charles had shown in the court. He gently stroked the soft hair of the girl and said, “Rachel seems a bit upset. Could you comfort her, Jenny?”
“Sure thing!” The little girl ran over and hugged Rachel’s leg. She looked up with a shy and innocent gaze and said, “Rachel, don’t cry.”
Rachel squatted down and looked at the girl, who bore a resemblance to her own daughter, and tried her best to hold back her tears.
The little girl threw herself at Rachel, wrapping her thin arms around Rachel’s slender shoulders. She gently patted Rachel’s back with a tender touch, which left Rachel feeling a bit at a loss for a moment.
According to Charles’s arrangement, she was supposed to take Jenny away.
When Charles drove Rachel and Jenny to the apartment building, Rachel felt a bit awkward looking at the peacefully sleeping girl in the
car seat.
“Just treat her like your own daughter. You have more experience with kids than I do,” Charles said as he got out of the car and opened the door for Rachel.
After a moment of internal struggle, Rachel carried Jenny out of the car.
As she was getting out, Charles reached out and considerately held the car frame to make it easier for her.
Rachel was touched. “Mr. Lopez, I’m sorry to trouble you. I…”
She expressed her gratitude, knowing that no amount of words could replace a sincere action.
Charles seemed to know what she was about to say and playfully tapped her forehead. “Has anyone ever told you that a girl’s tears are precious?”
Rachel pursed her lips and nodded. They were precious indeed, She didn’t cry so easily before, but now…
Rachel lowered her head a bit, feeling defeated as tears silently slid down her face.
Charles couldn’t bear to see it and took out a handkerchief to gently dab away her tears. Rachel looked at him, feeling a bit overwhelmed by his kindness.
‘He’s not as cold and heartless as the rumors say, she thought to herself.
For some reason, such a small gesture made Rachel’s cheeks turn a bit red. She looked around nervously, avoiding his gaze.
But then her eyes caught sight of Andrew, who was standing not far away with a stern expression on his face.
“Shame on you! Didn’t the Sampson family teach you how to be a wife?” Andrew said.
His people had found out that Rachel had moved out, and at first, Andrew didn’t believe it.
‘After the Sampson family went bankrupt, what assets does she have left to spend? She’s still using my money, isn’t she?‘ he thought.
Andrew knew that Rachel had kept the secondary card in the bedside drawer, so he had his people check it. It turned out she hadn’t touched a penny of the money. He had no idea where she got the money from. Now it was clear.
“So you’ve found someone to support you. Before you latch on to someone, can you at least use your brain? Does he even deserve to compete with me?” Andrew said.
As Andrew’s words grew more and more offensive, Rachel started to trembled with anger.
But Charles, standing nearby, didn’t even glance at him. He said to Rachel, “It’s tiring to hold her like that. Go upstairs and rest.”
That’s how people’s differences show. Andrew twisted the truth and maliciously slandered her, without noticing that Rachel was a little stooped. But Charles, the lawyer she had only known for a short while, put her first.
Rachel had already lost the desire to argue with Andrew.
“Stop. Where do you think you’re taking my daughter?” Andrew blocked their way. “Rachel, you can do whatever you want, but Jennie is my daughter, and I won’t let you take her away.”

He reached out to grab Jenny from Rachel’s arms. The sudden movement startled Jenny, who went deeper into Rachel’s embrace.
“Let her go! Isn’t your daughter Tracy, the one living in your villa?” Rachel said.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Andrew roared.
“I’m so scared!” Jenny cried.
“Don’t be afraid, Jennie. Come to Daddy.” Andrew tried to mimic Rachel, reaching out for Jenny, but the little girl clung to Rachel, refusing to let go.
“Jennie, be a good girl. I’ll buy you peanut cake later. You love it, don’t you?” Andrew said.
Rachel couldn’t help but laugh. “Andrew, stop being disgusting, okay? Jennie is allergic to peanuts. The one who loves peanut cake is probably your other daughter.”
“Rachel, what are you talking about in front of Jennie?” Andrew said.
Charles walked over and shielded Rachel. “Mr. Zevon, have you forgotten about what you said at the charity banquet already?”
Since Andrew said it himself, he couldn’t deny it.
“Who do you think you are? How dare you talk to me like that? Believe it or not, I can make your law firm unable to operate in Belgimia!” Andrew threatened.
Rachel knew Andrew’s capabilities. Over the years, he had been ruthless in eliminating rivals.
Worried that she would drag Charles into trouble, Rachel was about to speak. But Charles spoke first with a mocking tone, “Threats and intimidation are considered a crime too. Combined with bigamy, you could be sentenced to several years in prison.”
With that, Charles raised his eyebrows slightly with a hint of provocation and contempt, which really angered Andrew.
After gaining the upper hand once again, Charles escorted Rachel and Jenny upstairs.
“Rachel, if you insist on doing this, I’ll have to get tougher. As far as I know, after the Sampson family fell, those people who followed your father seem to still have business dealings with the Zevon Group, Andrew said.
As expected, upon hearing this, Rachel stopped in her tracks. Seeing that the threat had worked, Andrew continued. “Yedda and I have been getting closer, but there’s nothing between us.
“We haven’t crossed any lines. Your constant wild guesses not only tire me out but also make Jennie painful. You still seem reasonable, so take jennie back and let’s live a good life together.”
“Live a good life?” Rachel said.
“Yes, wouldn’t it be nice for the family of three to be like before?” Andrew said.
Rachel smiled with a numb expression. “It’s over, Andrew. I’m telling you for the last time, stop being disgusting and get out!”
Back home, Rachel put Jenny on the sofa and sat beside her, trembling with anger.
Charles poured a glass of water and handed it to her. Holding the warm cup, Rachel slowly calmed down.
“Mr. Lopez, where did this child come from? Although she looks like Jennie, she’s not Jennie. What if someone finds out?” she asked.
“Didn’t Andrew just fail to recognize her?” Charles was good at making conversation. One sentence left Rachel speechless.
If even her father couldn’t recognize his own daughter, Rachel had no choice but to keep quiet.
After a while, Charles said patiently, “Jenny is an abandoned baby I encountered while doing legal aid. She was only a few months old at the time and was diagnosed with a rare disease. I’ve been raising her abroad all these years. Don’t worry about her identity.”
“Jenny? A rare disease?” Rachel asked.
“Yes, she has dwarfism. Can you tell she’s already 15 years old?” Charles said.
Rachel was shocked once again.

Jenny looked about the same height as Jennie. Rachel had thought Jenny was around the same age as Jennie, but in fact, she was more than ten years older.
‘No wonder he asked me if I was tired just now. It turns out Jenny is heavier. I thought Charles cared about me, she thought.
“Since you’re awake, come over and show ‘your mother‘ what you’ve got,” Charles said.
Hearing that, Jenny jumped over from the sofa. Under Rachel’s astonished and incredulous gaze, she skillfully and powerfully demonstrated her fighting skills.
