Chapter 30
Derek nodded. This case was clearly a lost cause. He couldn’t understand why Andrew, who was already seeing another woman outside his marriage, was still clinging to Rachel. Juggling two relationships wasn’t supposed to be like this.
Andrew knew about the relationship between Derek and Charles, which was why he had hired Derek in the first place. After a moment of thought, he said, “Mr. Moore, I know this case is challenging.
“How about this–I’ll add another 166 million. You’re still the best person for this job.”
Derek thought. He is certainly wealthy and generous. He thought it over and finally agreed. He said, “Let me ask you one more time, do you want the divorce or not?”
This question left Andrew speechless. Initially, he had thought Rachel wouldn’t divorce him. After all, they had been together for so many years. Even if there was no love left, there was still the bond of their long acquaintance.
But seeing Rachel with Charles, Andrew felt it was necessary to teach Rachel a lesson. He thought, ‘Fine, if she wants a divorce, I will give her one. Rachel, just try to find someone else after me!
Andrew gritted his teeth and said with determination, “Yes, I want a divorce.”
Derek replied. “If you insist on the divorce, we might need to resort to some special tactics”
Hearing this, Andrew thought, Charles is indeed a formidable opponent. He asked, “What kind of tactics?”
Derek suggested, “Since the photos from earlier were staged against Ms. Sampson, why don’t we turn the tables and stage compromising photos of her with another man? Ideally, something that looks like they were caught in bed together.
At this, Andrew exploded in anger. He said, “You’re out of your mind! That’s out of the question!”
Andrew had confidence that there was nothing between Rachel and Charles. The thought of Rachel being intimate with another man was more painful than death itself.
He said, “Rachel is my woman, and no one else is allowed to touch her.”
Derek was in a tough spot. He said. “If we can’t play it straight and you won’t let me use underhanded tactics, this case is going to be very tricky
Andrew said, “You’re a professional lawyer, and you were Charles’s mentor. Surely you can come up with something. Think it over and ger back to me.” Then, he pointed at Derek and warned. “And don’t you dare scheme against Rachell
After Derek left. Andrew was so furious that he had to drink two glasses of ice water to calm himself down.
On the way back, Rachel asked, “Are you really going to defy your mentor like this? Aren’t you afraid people will say you’re betraying your teacher?”
Charles said. “Anyone who truly understands me would never say that.”
Rachel was left speechless and had to find a way to respond. She said, “You’re right. I believe you”
Charles, never one to give an inch, said, “If you really knew me, you’d understand that Derek was just a mentor for a month or two when I first started. He’s hardly a real mentor.”
Rachel said. “I see. But why are you two at each other’s throats?”
Rachel had hit the nail on the head. Charles and Derek did have a history, and Charles had even lost a case to him once.
Charles said, “The only case I’ve ever lost was to him”
Hearing about Charles’s past, Rachel became curious, especially about his first loss.
Seeing her face full of curiosity. Charles asked, “Are you that curiotis!”
as you takes a hit”
Rachel replied. “Of course I’m always tripping up, and I want to see what it looks like when someone as perfect as you Charles laughed, not sure if it was at her optimism or her carefree attitude. He flicked her forehead gently.

Rachel’s cheeks flushed when she realized what had happened.
Charles, unaware of how affectionate he was being said, “It was a long time ago. When I first joined the law firm, Derek gave me a pro bono case. Pro bono cases usually don’t pay much and are often thankless, so many lawyers avoid them
“I’m not particularly noble, but I wanted to prove I was different by taking it on. Little did I know, Derek turned around and became the defense lawyer for the other side. He used underhanded tactics to make me lose the case.
Rachel was surprised to hear about Charles’s past. She said, “Derek is really something”
Charles steered. “He’s more than something. He’s cunning and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Be careful around him”
After Derek left. Andrew received a call from Yedda, Yedda begged him to come to the hospital.
In the hospital room. Tracy lay weakly on the bed. Yedda, with red, swollen eyes from crying, threw herself into Andrew’s arms as soon as Andrew walked in.

Andrew pulled Yedda away. He asked. “What’s t
Yedda said. “Andrew. Tracy’s condition has worsened. She was already frail, and the fire at Rachel’s place scared her. She’s been having nightmares every night, and her health is deteriorating. It’s all Rachel’s fault. She’s the culprit, and you can’t just…
Andrew asked. “Didn’t the fire start?”
Andrew’s words shut Yedda up.
Rachel had been aggressive that day, but Andrew had found out later that she had only hired someone to scare Yedda and Tracy. Yedda’s baseless rumors were starting to annoy Andrew.
Andrew used to think Yedda’s tears were a sign of helplessness. But now, whenever she cried over something, it just seemed irritating He said, “If Tracy is not feeling well, see a doctor. I’ll get her the best medical team”
Seeing the impatience and indifference in Andrew’s eyes, Yedda didn’t know how to respond.
At that moment. Tracy’s attending physician. David, walked in. He said. “You’re all here.” Since Tracy had been hospitalized, Andrew had been coming to the hospital regularly, and David naturally assumed Andrew was Tracy’s father.
David continued. “Tracy’s condition can’t wait any longer. She’s getting weaker, and her vital functions are declining. She needs a kidney transplant immediately. You should start looking for a donor as soon as possible.”
Yedda chimed in, ‘Andrew, Tracy is really very sick. Can you please help me?”
At that moment, as if by telepathy, Tracy slowly opened her eyes from the hospital bed. She asked, “Mommy, am I going to die?”
Andrew couldn’t bear to see the adorable little girl suffer. He finally nodded and said, “Tll find a way”
Hearing this, Yedda was overjoyed and winked at Tracy. Tracy happily threw herself into Andrew’s arms and said. “Thank you, Daddy, I love you
After seeing the doctor out, Yedda said gratefully, “Dr. Grant, thank you for speaking up for me. Here’s a little something for your trouble” She tried to slip a bank card into David’s pocket.
David dodged and said, “No need Tracy’s condition is serious, and the surgery costs aren’t low. Follow–up chemotherapy will also be a significant expense. You should keep the money for Tracy.”
Hearing this. Yedda was stunned. She asked, “What are you saying?
“Ms. Zom. Tracy’s condition is critical, and she needs surgery immediately. You should keep the money for her treatment,” David repeated before walking toward the nurses station
Yedda stood there in shock. After a while, she chased after David and overheard him chatting with a nurse.

The nurse asked. “Dr. Grant, why didn’t you take Tracy’s mother’s card? She looks very wealthy”
Davad replied. “How could I take her card Tracy’s chances of survival are slim. Even after surgery, she might not live long What if Tracy’s mother turns the tables on mar later?”
Hearing this, the water glass slipped from Yedda’s hand and shattered on the ground. She thought with disbelief, How could thus ber
