Chapter 35
After Rachel arrived. Jennie cried and clung to her. Jennie said, “Rachel, I thought I’d never see you again.”
The doctors and nurses around them couldn’t help but feel emotional.
One doctor said, “Can you believe someone would go to such lengths to save her child by forcibly taking someone else’s kidney?”
A nurse chimed in. “Yeah, I heard she’s some kind of celebrity”
Another nurse said, “People like her shouldn’t get away with this. She needs to pay the price?
Andrew walked in and heard the conversations. He had Frank clear out the extra people. He asked, “Jennie, are you okay?”
He reached out to hug Jennie, but Jennie dodged him with a look of disgust. He said, “It’s my fault. Come here and let me see you.”
Jennie shouted, “No, go away” She buried herself in Rachel’s arms, trembling with fear. She cried, I’m so scared”
A nurse said. “Sir, your daughter is traumatized. Maybe you should leave for now.”
Andrew glared at the nurse. He had no choice but to leave.
Once Andrew was gone, Rachel shooed the nurse out. Then, she said to Jennie, “Alright, everyone’s gone. You can stop pretending now”
Jennie emerged from Rachel’s embrace, wiped her tears, and sat back on the bed. She said. “Acting is exhausting. Not everyone can be an Oscar–winning actress. But seriously, I kind of envy Yedda for her acting skills. She’s convincing.”
Yedda did have some talent. After all, she’d won three major awards at a young age. But Rachel couldn’t understand why, despite her successful career, Yedda was so fixated on Andrew
Yedda could have lived a great life on her own, yet here she was, entangled in this mess
Rachel warned. “Anyway, you were really brave. Don’t take such risks next time. Always talk to me if something’s up.”
Jennie shrugged and said. “Don’t worry, I was prepared.”
At that moment, Andrew walked back in, holding a giant pink doll.
Jennie quickly hid her si
snacks under the blanket
Andrew walked over to the bed and asked, “Jennie, are you awake?”
Rachel said. “Whatever you have to say, say it to me. Don’t disturb Jennie”
Andrew awkwardly put down the doll. He asked, “Did you post that video of Tracy!
Rachel looked at him, puzzled. She asked, “You think I’d do something like that?”
Andrew said, “Look at the comments online.”
Rachel pulled out her phone and saw that the top news story was about Yedda’s daughter, Tracy. She opened a random video and saw Tracy on screen, with a barrage of angry comments and curses.
Rachel watched it all with a blank expression, then put the phone down.
Andrew asked, “Do you have anything to say for yourself?”
Rachel replied coldly. What do you think I need to say
Sering Rachel’s disgusted and indifferent face, Andrew hesitated. He remembered what Yedda had said when she was arrested by the police. Yedda said. “How could I not know that illegal surgery is a crime?
“Did you ever think that this might be Rachel’s trap? She promised to donate a kidney to Tracy but then backed out, playing the victim I’m intiorent. I was decrived by Rachel. You have to help me?
Andrew thought, Who is lying? Yedda cares so much about Tracy that she won’t joke around with “Tracy’s life
time like this. It has in

He said. “Alright, let’s drop it. Yedda is being held now. You need to go explain to the police that you decided to perform the surgery privately.”
Rachel exclaimed. “Are you seriously asking me to testify for Yedda! Andrew, have you lost your mind?”
Andrew warned. “Rachel, I’m trying to reason with you. Don’t push me.
Frank, who had been standing by, couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped in.
On the way back, Frank couldn’t help but defend Rachel. He said. “Mr. Zevon, I don’t think Mrs. Zevon would do something like that.”
Andrew snapped, “Do you know her that well?”
Frank knew Andrew was sensitive about Rachel’s interactions with other men. But he still tried to explain, “I’ve been with you for years and have seen how you two have been together.
“I don’t think it’s that simple. Don’t you know Mrs. Zevon’s character?”
If it were before, Andrew might have thought he knew Rachel. But not anymore. He said, “The Rachel I know now is not the same as before. The words surprised even himself.
Frank, noticing Andrew’s expression, said vaguely. Yeah, Mrs. Zevon is different now Frank knew why Rachel was different, but Andrew, caught in the middle, was still in the dark.
Andrew thought. The old Rachel was sweet, family–oriented, and a bit mischievous. But she seems ruthless and selfish. It is all because of Charles. If only that guy had disappeared, would Rachel go back to being the same?
Andrew asked, “How’s the investigation on that lawyer going?”
Frank had been looking into Charles for a while, but all he found was that Charles was a partner at a law firm with a solid track record. Everything else about his family and background was a blank, which was suspicious.
Andrew thought Rachel was acting because of Charles. But it was not true.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Frank lied. There’s no suspicious point.”
Andrew thought. If there are no suspicious points, then getting rid of him would be as easy as squashing an ant. He decided to take matters into his own hands. He instructed. “Find out what he’s been up to lately.”
Before Frank could dig any further, Andrew couldn’t wait any longer. Rachel refused to testify for Yedda. Yedda was about to be prosecuted. Tracy’s condition in the hospital was getting worse.
Nora had contacted Andrew before. She said, “Mr. Zevon, you should go see Jennie. She hasn’t eaten or drunk anything for two days, and Tracy’s condition is deteriorating”
Nora had been with Yedda for years. If something happened to Yedda, all her efforts would be in vain.
Just in tione, Frank called and reported, “Mr. Zevon, Charles has gone to Lingaston”
Andrew replied. “Alright, no need to follow him. I’ll handle it. With that, he hung up.
Hearing this, Frank was confused. He had a bad feeling
Andrew had always known that Frank was Richards man. When Andrew took over Zevon Group, many shareholders had opposed him, thinking he was too young to lead Frank became the knife in the dark, helping Andrew smooth things out.
Although Frank was Richard sman, he knew how to handle things properly. Over the years, Andrew trusted Frank more than he was
wary
But when it came to Charles, Andrew didn’t want Frank to interfere. Andrew’s male pride wouldn’t allow it. He wanted to deal with his
