I just think it’s odd that even though she didn’t get the job, the CEO of the company suddenly took interest in her, and he was soon taking her all around the world on expensive trips, buying her designer bags that cost more than her parents house, and paying off her student debt completely. For him, I think it was a whirlwind romance, and he was led to believe that he had found the woman of his dreams, not realising that it was all part of her elaborate scheme to get into lids lead.”

I read the article three times, and each time felt like someone was dunking a bucket of cold water over me. It just didn’t seem real, and by the time I finished reading it the third time, there was a dull ringing in my ear, and my fingers were soaked in sweat. I couldn’t see clearly anymore, and I staggered towards the window as I desperately gasped for air.
This couldn’t be happening. This could not be happening.
My heart felt like it was going to explode from my chest, and I wanted to climb to the top of the Empire State Building and scream until my lungs gave out. I wanted to slam my head against a brick wall, or drive my fist through a metal pipe.
Instead, I just sat there and cried.
This had Emily written all over it. I didn’t need anyone else to tell me that she was the one who did this. I still couldn’t believe that my best friend had turned into my worst enemy, and that she would actually do something this evil and twisted. What about all the years we spent as friends? What about the fact that I considered her to be my sister?
I didn’t even want to see what the comments were saying. Everyone would surely side with him. I would be the terrible gold digger who simply wanted to get a slice of the cake. No one would believe me if I told them how it really happened, how Marcus had swept me off my feet so easily and practically forced our relationship to move way faster than it should have.
My phone started to ring suddenly, and I answered without really looking at the caller ID, then immediately regretted it when I heard Marcus’s voice on the line.
“I’m guessing you’ve heard the news,” he said triumphantly. “I wish I could say that I feel sorry for you, but I don’t. You deserve every bit of this, and you haven’t even seen anything yet.”

“Why are you doing this, Marcus?” I asked.
He was silent for a while, and then he said, “You destroyed everything, Olivia. You ruined my life, and the perfect image I had of my family. You ruined it all, and yet you have the audacity to sit there and pretend you don’t even know what you did. l’in going to make sure you suffer every day for the rest of your miserable life.”
“I loved you, Marcus,” 1 whispered as my heart shattered to a million pieces. “Against all odds, in spite of everything, I still loved you. I did everything I could to save our marriage. And this is what I get in return?”
I wanted him to feel the guilt of his actions. I wanted him to realise how low he’d sunk, and what a cruel and inhumane person he had become. I wanted all that and so much more. But he didn’t even seem to care as he said one final thing before hanging up:
