Chapter 6
I stepped in with all the energy I had and gave Mandy two big slaps, just like Mandy had given me but twice as hard.
“That’s your mom you’re talking to! If you can’t take care of a kid, then why have one? You let someone else watch him instead. And now, you’re blaming your mom when she makes a mistake?”
Mandy was so shocked by my slaps that she just stared at me with a mean look while people around us started to gossip.
She tried to explain, “Do you even know what she did? She cooked meat that had chemicals in it and served it to Jared!”
It did not matter what my mother–in–law did. What mattered was that Mandy should be kind and respectful!
When I lost my Teresa, did Mandy not just say mean things and hurt me more?
Now that it was happening to her, why could she not deal with it?
She once got some milk powder for her mom, and when it expired, she told my mother–in–law to give it
to Teresa.
If my mother–in–law was clueless and bad, then my sister–in–law was just plain mean and nasty!
Mandy was mad because she could not take advantage of us anymore, so she caused trouble for me and
Teresa.
I was just giving her a taste of her own medicine now.
I stood in front of my mother–in–law, protecting her. Your mom is just used to being careful with money. She doesn’t want to eat the good stuff herself and saves it for the kids. That meat was expensive, over 20 bucks for a pound. How was she supposed to know that even after washing it, it wasn’t safe to eat?
“Plus, wasn’t it your own son who was naughty and poured chemicals on the meat? He ruined such pricey meat, and that’s because you didn’t teach him right!”
