The 15 thousand dollars got Mandy to reconcile with her husband, and she agreed to move back in.
I called the cops that day and got her thrown into the police station. It was because I noticed a bunch of my clothes, makeup, and jewelry were gone when I went back home. She really cleaned me out!
At first, Mandy would not fess up to stealing, thinking she could get away with it because she was pregnant.
However, I had a camera in my bedroom, and it caught her sneaking in and stealing my belongings over
and over.
It was plain theft.
The three pieces of gold jewelry–a ring, a bracelet, and a necklace–were not worth much. However, the diamond set my parents gave me for my wedding was a different story. It was worth a small fortune.
After the police explained things, Mandy got scared and confessed she took the jewelry, but she insisted she did not steal it. She claimed she was just borrowing my jewelry for a while since we were family.
In situations like that, making up was usually the best option.
Chapter 7
So, I agreed. “Alright. If she gives back everything she took, I won’t make a big deal out of it.”
+25 BONUS:
Mandy quickly called her husband, telling him to bring everything back. However, David just hung up on her, saying the jewelry was gone and could not be returned.
Mandy went white as a sheet. She knew her husband all too well. He must have sold the jewelry to gamble!
If they could not pay for the lost jewelry, both she and her husband would be in big trouble.
The police would soon be after them.
When Edwin and his mom heard what happened, they hurried over.
Mandy saw a glimmer of hope and begged her mom to help remind Edwin of his family ties.
“Edwin, what kind of wife calls the cops on her own family? I just borrowed some jewelry to wear. Is it really such a big deal? Edwin, you need to talk to your wife!”
Edwin used to take her side, but she forgot that David had just recently beaten up Edwin. He had also taken a large sum of money from their mom, money that was meant for their future. That grudge had not gone away.
Besides, Edwin felt that what was mine was his too, and he could not just give away a fortune for nothing.
He was so mad that he told Mandy off, “Scram! You mooched off us and stole from your sister–in–law. If you don’t return everything today, you’re going to jail!”
I had already told him before we got there that the jewelry was worth a lot and it belonged to our family Edwin was the kind of person who never forgot a grudge, so why would he miss a chance to get even?
