Luke grabbed my hand and said, “Anna, you know I love you! Mandy and I were just in a moment of confusion. If it weren’t for her mother, I’d never have married her.”
I pulled my hand back, looked at him calmly, and said nothing.
Luke cried out, “It was an act of compassion! Could you really bear to let a single mother die with regrets? You wealthy people are so cold–blooded. You don’t understand the pain of ordinary people!”
As he shouted, a figure pushed through the crowd and charged toward me.
The flash of a blade gleamed, and Ethan suddenly shoved me aside.
A sickening sound followed as the knife plunged into his back. Blood started to soak through his clothes.
I shouted for a doctor.
The attacker, a woman, was quickly subdued by security. She screamed, “Give me back my daughter! Give her back!!!
It turned out she was Mandy’s supposedly ‘deceased‘ mother–Farah Lynch.
Luke was stunned. “Mrs. Lynch? Aren’t you dead?”
Farah tried to reach for him, but Luke snapped out of his shock and pushed her away harshly.
Luke glared at her with bloodshot eyes as he interrogated her.
“So, you’ve been lying to me this whole time!”
Farah struggled but smiled lovingly at Luke. “Luke, it was all for you and Mandy. You love each other! She was stolen from you. I was just helping you set things right and find true happiness.
Luke slapped her hard across the face and spat, “My happiness is Anna! You wretched old woman, who’s your daughter to me? You ruined everything between Anna and I! Go to hell!”
He lunged at her and reached for her neck.
Fortunately, the police arrived just in time to break up the chaos.
Farah was arrested for faking her death, and Luke was also taken to the police station.
At the hospital, I looked at Ethan as he lay in bed. His face was pale, and I felt overwhelmed with guilt.
I thought back to the times I flaunted my happiness in front of him or teased him about being
an emotionless block of ice no one would ever love.
