Samuel pressed against the door, knowing there was a risk his hand might get caught in between, and desperately asked, “Did she say where she was going? Maybe a travel destination or something? I’m really worried about her.”
It wouldn’t be appropriate to actually trap Samuel’s hand in front of the police, but the landlady was clearly irritated. “I don’t know. A man should have some dignity, and not keep pestering someone after a breakup. Let go,
sir.”
The landlady hadn’t known Isabella for long, but as a woman, she could still sense the unspoken understanding. She had already figured out that Isabella had come all the way to Aldoria because of a broken heart.
Samuel hadn’t anticipated the hurt he had caused Isabella to be so apparent. With a frustrated sigh, he pulled his
hand back.
The door slammed shut with a final, deafening thud.

He felt the weight of guilt pressing on him, but still, he wasn’t ready to give up on the years of love he had shared with Isabella.
Samuel pulled every string he could, even spending large sums of money to hire private investigators to track down any clues related to Isabella’s whereabouts at major airports in Aldoria. He hoped that by checking the immigration records, he might find some hint of her movements.
But the result was the same as all his efforts back home–no matter how experienced the investigators he hired were, they couldn’t find a single trace of her.
There was no record of Isabella, Silhouette, or even her nickname, Bella.
It was as though she had vanished from the face of the Earth.
At this point, Samuel had completely lost the last thread of connection to her.
Upon returning home, he didn’t go anywhere. He moved like a zombie, dragging his feet as he entered the house. Then, he locked himself in the bedroom, much to the surprise of the servants.
From that day forward, he hardly ever left the bedroom, seeming determined to shut himself off from the world. The servants watched him, but none dared to say anything. After all, their salaries were automatically deposited into their bank accounts. They just had to continue doing what Isabella had asked them to do before she left.
It wasn’t until Frederick came to check on him that he realized how serious things had gotten and informed Samuel’s parents.
Samuel’s parents, Tristan and Eleanor, had always believed their son and daughter–in–law were living a perfect life. They thought that having a baby would make Samuel and Isabella’s life even more complete.
They had no idea that, behind their backs, Samuel’s marriage had already reached the point of collapse. They immediately rushed over.
The villa looked as pristine as always. Everything was spotless, the windows gleaming, and the flowers in the living room vase were changed regularly by the servants.
But the one thing missing was Samuel himself.

Eleanor was visibly worried and stopped a servant. “Where’s Samuel? How’s he been lately?”
The servant, worried about the situation with her employer, quickly explained when she saw someone finally stepping in.
“Mr. Grant has locked himself in his bedroom. We’ve been sending him meals three times a day, but he refuses to eat or drink. He just sits at the table and writes.”
Eleanor was confused. “What is he writing?”
