The host had done her homework. She looked at her guest and then glanced at the photos in her notes, struggling to match them with the man in front of her. But she quickly found a way to make it work, asking a question that would stir some conversation.
“Mr. Grant, how have you been lately?”
“Not well,” he replied flatly.
Samuel sat under the spotlight, looking utterly defeated. It was the first time he had shown his exhaustion and pain so openly to the world. On the large screen behind him images of him from his more successful days were still being projected, making him seem like an entirely different person.
The audience was stunned. They had never seen someone of his stature admit to such vulnerability before. Everyone held their breath, eagerly waiting for what he would say next.
Samuel was brutally honest, even when the host asked about the reason for the breakdown of his marriage.
He didn’t hesitate to confess, “Because I cheated.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd. Their eyes turned toward him with a mix of disdain, shock, and curiosity. Samuel knew that once this episode aired, the company’s stock price would inevitably take a hit, but he couldn’t care less. Slowly, he lifted his head, scanned the room with a calm gaze, and said in a quiet voice, “I’m not here just to find my wife. I also want to apologize to her.
“We’ve been together for many years. Our relationship started back in school. She’s always taken care of me, supported me, and sacrificed so much for my career. She even put aside her passion for photography for me, but I ignored how she was feeling.
He knew, deep down, how much Isabella had done for the company. But for so long, he had been lying to himself.
It would get better. Everything would get better. Once he was successful, he would make it up to her.
That was what he had told himself that over and over, and he even believed it.
But when she left so decisively, he realized the truth–he had been lying to himself all along.
His voice faltered. After a brief pause, he choked up, facing the camera with eyes full of despair.
“I’ve hurt her deeply with my stupidity, my vanity, and my ridiculous masculinity. I don’t expect forgiveness, but I hope she can give me a chance to see her, just one last time…”
The footage of him tearing up quickly went viral online. Some people said his apology seemed sincere, that he truly understood his mistakes, while others dismissed it as just another performance from a man who didn’t deserve any sympathy.
Most were confused.
“Wasn’t Mrs. Grant declared dead by the police? Why is Mr. Grant still looking for her?”
“Maybe he can’t accept it.”
“Please, who’s to blame but him for cheating? He only came out to do this after Mrs. Grant was gone. Isn’t it clearly just an act? Those are just crocodile tears!”
