So, I told them about the hospital, the miscarriage, and how Julian had turned on me, hurting me in the process. They were sympathetic but reminded me that it all came down to hard evidence.
The police had already reviewed the surveillance footage from that day, and there was no sign of a car swerving, as Vera claimed. It was clear that she had made that up.
They had also started to track down the truck driver involved, and they would soon have the details.
I didn’t even notice Vera’s face turning ashen. Before long, the police brought in the truck driver behind the crash.
When he saw Vera, he gasped and asked, “What are you doing here? Didn’t you say that we’d never get caught?”
Vera struggled to speak. Julian finally realized that something was wrong and pulled away from her.
The police reviewed the truck driver’s phone records and found Vera’s contact info and screenshots of their messages. In those texts, they were discussing their plans to make sure that I’d get hurt enough to miscarry while keeping the driver safe.
Vera had made him delete everything, but he’d kept the screenshots as a backup. Now, they were coming in handy.
Both Julian and Vera went white as a sheet.
She panicked and hurried to explain, “No way. This isn’t true. Someone’s setting me up, Jules. That picture has been altered. You can check my phone if you want. I don’t even know the guy!”
But then the driver pulled up records of her money transfers. They were solid proof that completely tipped the scales. Later, the police went over the images with a fine–tooth comb and found no signs of tampering.
Vera completely lost it. Julian, on the other hand, looked like he’d seen a ghost.
As the investigation went on, more and more evidence came to light. Several hospital staff members stepped forward, saying that they’d seen Julian completely ignore me after the crash and had noticed Vera acting suspiciously.

Their statements made things even worse for Julian and Vera. When faced with the hard truth, Vera finally cracked and lost it. Julian wasn’t listening to her excuses anymore.
The police took her away as Julian sank into a chair, staring blankly into space. It finally seemed like he was starting to get the complete picture of his mistakes. But it was too late.
I looked at him without an ounce of pity. I had lost my child and gone through hell because of their actions. All I cared about now was seeing them pay for what they’d done.
Before I left, I told the police about how Julian had tried to kill me at the courthouse that day. They got the surveillance footage right away..
It nearly crushed Julian when he saw that Vera had intentionally fallen down the stairs. He clutched his head and cried uncontrollably.
He punched himself over and over, groaning, “How could this happen… How did it come to this…”
I ignored him. After I gave my statement, I walked out of the station.
In the end, Vera was convicted of attempted murder and sent to prison. Julian was also caught up in legal trouble because of his part in it.
The day the investigation results were released, the public opinion online flipped dramatically. My social media blew up with apologies.
The hospital fired Julian and ensured that he couldn’t work in the field ever again.
I walked down the street alone, finally feeling the sun on my skin after what felt like forever. My marriage was done, but my life was just beginning.
