I struggled to get back on my feet. When I saw how flustered Julian looked, I couldn’t help but feel a weird sense of satisfaction.
“Now you remember that we have a kid?” I retorted. “You’re calling me an unfit mom, but are you even cut out to be a dad? Where were you these past few days when I needed you?
“Where were you when everyone was thrashing me? Where were you when I was lying on that operating table, waiting for someone in the family to sign off on the surgery?”
His face went white.
“We lost the baby because of you, Julian. And now our marriage is over, too!” I yelled.
I saw panic flash across his face, but it quickly turned to anger. “Stop acting like you’re the victim. You brought all this on yourself! The crash happened because of you.
“Vera’s already being the bigger person by not throwing the blame on you, yet you’re now going to pin it all on me? I never thought that you’d stoop this low, Kate! I’m asking you one last time–what happened to the baby?”
By now, a crowd had gathered around us. Someone recognized me as the person everyone’s been talking about online–the one behind the car crash. They started pointing and throwing insults my way.
“So that’s the nasty bitch who tried to kill someone out of jealousy? She’s got a pretty face, but underneath, she’s a total monster!”
