When Wesley returned to the inn after finishing the clinic, he saw Jessica cleaning the room next door.
“Jessica, did she check out?” Wesley asked.
Jessica straightened up and replied with a smile, “Yes, she left early this morning

Yvonne continued on her journey. This time, she arrived in a small county town.
The town was about to hold an Autumn Harvest Competition, where the largest and highest–quality agricultural products would be selected. The winner would receive a golden wheat sheaf wreath symbolizing abundance and good fortune.
Yvonne found it quite interesting and decided to stay for a few days until the competition was over.
To her surprise, she received a call from Reid.
His voice was deep, seemingly suppressing immense anger. “Yvonne, where are you?”
Yvonne was slightly taken aback. “How did you get my number?”
Reid didn’t answer directly, but said forcefully, “Either you come back now, or I’ll come and get you. And you can choose a position you like.”
He used the word “position“, which caused a wave of helplessness to rise in Yvonne.
Yvonne sighed, trying to keep her voice calm. “Reid, we don’t have a future.”
“No future? How would you know that? And why do you think so?” Reid asked.

Without any emotion, Yvonne said, “Not to mention anything else. Would your family really allow you to marry a divorced
woman?”
“How do you know they wouldn’t? Have you asked them?” There was a hint of accusation in Reid’s tone.
“I don’t like you,” Yvonne said.
Reid, on the other end of the line, suddenly fell silent, and then Yvonne heard the sound of something shattering in the phone, crisp and grating.
“Come back, and we’ll talk when you’re here,” Reid said.
“I’ll be back in ten days,” Yvonne replied.
“No, come back now-” Reid raised his voice.
Yvonne sighed. “Reid, let me have some peace and clear my mind, okay? Don’t push me.”
Reid was quiet for a long moment, and finally, as if in compromise, he said, “Alright, I’ll give you ten days. But don’t you dare block me again.”
After hanging up the phone, Yvonne suddenly felt that her love life now was even more chaotic than it had been before her divorce.
She had stayed here for three days, exploring every nook and cranny of the county town.
The Autumn Harvest Competition took place as scheduled. The central square of the county town was bustling with activity, colorful flags flapping noisily in the autumn wind.
In the middle of the square, rows of long tables were set up, displaying the bountiful autumn harvest brought by the participants. Yvonne walked around, marveling at the agricultural products on display.
A snack street had also been set up in the square, offering a wide variety of local delicacies.
Yvonne chose a stall that seemed popular, following the crowd to buy a slice of pizza. Unexpectedly, after taking just a few bites, she felt nauseous and had a stomachache.
At the same time, others who had eaten the pizza from this stall began to experience the same symptoms.
Some people squatted on the ground, clutching their stomachs, their faces pale as paper, with large beads of sweat rolling down their foreheads; others started vomiting, the sour stench of their vomit spreading through the air and adding to the chaos.
The once lively snack street instantly turned into a scene of panic, with people’s screams and painful moans intermingling.
Someone called for emergency help, and soon the wail of ambulance sirens grew louder as they approached, and the affected individuals were taken to the hospital.
In the hospital, the corridors were packed with food poisoning patients and their families. Doctors and nurses hurried about, working nervously to provide treatment.
Yvonne’s case was not severe, so she sat in the hallway receiving an IV drip. Unlike the other patients who had family members by their sides, she was alone, looking up at the IV bag as the medicine slowly dripped into her body.
There were many cases of poisoning, and the emergency department was short–staffed, so personnel were urgently called in from other departments.
While the nurse was dispensing medicine in the pharmacy, she called out Yvonne’s name several times without getting a
response.

One of the nurses said, “She seems to be a tourist, and she’s here by herself. She might be in the infusion room. I’ll take the medicine to her.”
Wesley, who overheard this, paused in his tracks. Looking at the medicine in the nurse’s hand, he said, “I’ll take it.
“Oh, Dr. Godfrey,” the nurse looked at him. “Alright, thank you.”
“Okay.” Wesley took the medicine and headed towards the infusion room. Amidst the chaotic crowd, he spotted Yvonne sitting quietly in the corner at first glance.
Her face was slightly pale, and her lips had lost their usual rosy huc. A few strands of hair were disheveled and stuck to her cheeks, making her look vulnerable. She seemed lonely and pitiable.
“Yvonne,” Wesley called out. Yvonne snapped back to reality, looked around, and saw Wesley striding towards her in his white lab coat and mask.
“Dr. Godfrey?” Yvonne was taken aback, not expecting to run into him here of all places.
“How are you feeling?” Wesley glanced at her IV drip, noticing that one bag was empty. He swiftly replaced the needle into another bag.
“Much better. Just still a bit nauseous,” Yvonne replied.
“That’s a normal reaction. The toxins haven’t been completely flushed out yet. The medicine should help,” Wesley said, handing her the pills the nurse had given him. Seeing that she had trouble taking them without water, he said, “Wait here for
a moment.”
When Wesley returned, he had a bottle of mineral water in his hand. He unscrewed the cap and handed it to her. “Take your medicine.”
“Okay.” Yvonne swallowed the pills and felt the nausea subside just a little. She leaned back in her chair, let out a soft sigh, and looked up at Wesley. “Thank you. Are you here for the clinic as well?”
“Yes,” Wesley replied.
Yvonne took out her phone. “PayPal.”
Wesley gave her a faint look. “You’re in the hospital now. This is just part of my duty as a doctor.”
Yvonne nodded and didn’t insist. Just then, a nurse called out to him, and Wesley got up and left. He was gone for quite a while.
By the time Yvonne had finished her IV and given her statement, he still hadn’t come back. She didn’t wait for him and left the hospital on her own.
When Wesley finally finished and came back, he found that Yvonne had disappeared once again. For some reason, he suddenly felt a lump in his chest.
