Reid noticed her nervousness but just smirked. “Wouldn’t it be better if he saw us? Then you could get divorced right away”
“Reid!” Yvonne hissed, fury in her eyes as she tried to push him away.
“Yes?” Reid didn’t move, lowering his head to gently kiss her earlobe.
Yvonne shivered; in just one night, he’d discovered her sensitive spots. He’d enjoyed kissing her over and over last night, and now he was teasing her again.
Her face flushed a deep red, her earlobes burning from his touch. The warmth made her heart race, leaving her both shy and annoyed. A thin mist of tears filled her eyes, and suddenly her gaze turned sultry and captivating, like a siren’s.
“Reid, don’t go too far,” she whispered through clenched teeth.
Reid had no intention of stopping, however. His eyes blazed with intensity as if he wanted to set her entire being on fire. He wondered, ‘When she’s cold, she’s truly indifferent. But when she’s alluring, she’s damn irresistible.
“Too far? I think we’re just getting started,” he murmured, his voice deep and magnetic. His fingers brushed her cheek, a barely–there touch that made her heart skip a beat.
Yvonne took a deep breath, trying again to push him away. “Let me go. Steven could come down any second.”
Reid’s lips curled into a smile, his usual composure giving way to boldness. “So what? I want him to see, to know that you’re
mine.”
Just then, footsteps sounded from upstairs, and Yvonne’s face turned pale, her heart racing. But Reid held her tighter, showing no sign of letting go.
The footsteps came closer, and Yvonne grew more anxious. She was about to freak out when the footsteps almost reached the hallway and suddenly stopped. Steven turned back. Yvonne let out a sigh of relief, feeling secretly grateful.
Reid noticed the tension on her face, and his smile widened. “Scared?” he asked softly, teasing her.
She glared at him. “Let go of me right now, or there won’t be
a
next time.” Her voice carried a hint of threat.
Reid was taken aback for a moment and then released her. “Send him away tonight, and I’ll come over.”
Yvonne quickly straightened her clothes and hair. Reid lounged lazily on the sofa, watching her with a smile.
Annoyed, Yvonne kicked him hard. He winced, but her angry look reminded him of her fiery spirit, and a flicker of affection flashed in his eyes.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Reid,” Steven said, hurrying down the stairs. He was dressed in a suit, his hair still damp from a rushed shower.
Reid lifted his chin, looking at him calmly. “No worries. Chatting with Yvonne was actually pretty interesting.”
“Oh? Honey, what did you two talk about?” Steven asked, wrapping an arm around Yvonne’s shoulders.
Reid’s eyes narrowed slightly, showing a hint of displeasure.
Yvonne quietly moved away, keeping her tone calm. “We talked about last night.”
Steven’s expression changed. “Well, Reid, let’s go.”

“Okay,” Reid replied, getting up and slowly fixing his tie. He glanced at Yvonne again with a meaningful smile.
As the two headed out, Steven turned back at the door and said to Yvonne, “TII be back tonight.”
Yvonne stood there, silent.
Reid casually added. “Did you hear that, Yvonne?”
Yvonne realized he was referring to the earlier comment about “sending him away.” She pressed her lips together and replied, “Got it.”
The two men laughed and got into the car.
Yvonne stayed at home and carefully packed her things. Then she called her best friend, Courtney Jones. “I’m sending my stuff today. Can you sign for it when it gets there?”
“Yeah. Yvonne, it’s great that you’re finally leaving the Chapin family,” Courtney said.
Yvonne stood by the window, looking at the garden where the neglected flowers were wilting. Her eyes were filled with determination. Those once lively flowers were now lifeless, just like her marriage.
“Yeah, three years of waiting just for this moment,” she said.
Courtney sighed, “I never thought it would come to this for you two. It’s enough to make anyone doubt love. But that’s not what I meant, Yvonne. Are you sure you really want to leave Avaloria?”
Yvonne shifted her gaze to the distance. “Yep. When the Chapin family moved to Avaloria, I didn’t have a choice. Now that I do, I won’t stay any longer.”
“I have a feeling Steven won’t agree to this divorce,” Courtney said.
Yvonne smiled slightly. “I’ve been patient until now. It’s not about what he wants anymore.”
“No matter what, Yvonne, I hope you quickly get out of this tough spot and start fresh.”
“Alright, I’ll come find you when I’m done here.”
“Okay, I’ll introduce you to some fresh faces then.”
Yvonne hung up with a smile. She carried the clipped photos to the trash bin just as the garbage truck arrived and, without hesitation, dumped them all in.
As the truck slowly drove away, Yvonne almost saw the boy from her memories, wiping blood from his forehead and smiling as he waved goodbye to her.
On that quiet afternoon, Yvonne took a deep breath, leaving behind any hesitation and doubt, and turned to walk away.
In the evening, Yvonne got a call from Steven. His voice was slurred with drunkenness. “Honey, I’ve had too much to drink. Can you come pick me up?”
The business partners had been particularly enthusiastic, pouring him plenty of drinks. His assistant happened to be c leave, so he thought of asking Yvonne to pick him up.
Yvonne paused for a moment before she spoke slowly, “Come back on your own, Steven. We need to have a serious talk.”
“Talk about what?” he asked.
“About our marriage,” she replied.

There was a sudden silence on the other end, with only faint background noise, and then Steven’s breathing got heavier. “Honey, I just remembered I have something to do tonight, so I won’t be back.” He quickly hung up before Yvonne could reply.
Yvonne let out a cold laugh, tossed her phone onto the bed, and lay down with her eyes closed. After a while, she got up to take a shower.

After her shower, there was a missed call from an unknown number. Yvonne paused, remembering it must have been Reid. She deleted and blocked the number, and then sat at her vanity to blow–dry her hair.
The phone rang again from another unknown number. Yvonne hesitated but picked up just before it stopped ringing. “Hello.”
Reid’s voice came through. “Didn’t feel like answering my
call?”
“Could you stop calling?” she asked.
“Let’s talk about it after tonight. Where are you?”
“I’m not home. I-” Before she could finish, the doorbell rang both downstairs and on the phone.
Reid’s cool voice came through the phone. “Well, that’s really strange. I see someone in your bedroom from downstairs–uh, maybe it’s not a human.”
Yvonne hung up and muttered in her mind, ‘You’re the one who’s not human.’
