Chapter 7
Reid strolled into the room, casually holding one end of his tie with his long fingers and swinging it back and forth. He tilted his head back, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he loosened the tie, letting it dangle loosely around his neck.
His eyes narrowed just a bit, giving off a laid–back vibe that was both irresistible and a little dangerous. He looked like a charming troublemaker stepping out of the shadows.
Yvonne stood on the stairs in her cotton pajamas, tilting her head to look down at him. Reid glanced up, locking eyes with her. There was a hint of daze in his gaze, mixed with something intense.
For a moment, he felt a strange sensation, like he was coming home to a wife waiting under the light. He curled his lips into a quiet, cheeky smile, glad that Steven, that clueless guy, had no idea what he was giving up.
Reid just stood there, watching her with a playful smirk. “Come down,” he said, his voice tinged with a hint of longing that was hard to resist.
Yvonne frowned, “You come up.”
Reid began walking toward the stairs with long, purposeful strides. His steps were a little unsteady, but each one was filled with determination. When he reached Yvonne, the smell of alcohol was stronger on him.
“You’ve been drinking,” Yvonne said, turning her face away slightly, her tone calm.
Reid gently took her chin, turning her face back to him. His touch was tender but firm. “Yeah, just a little,” he said, his eyes fixed on hers, like he was trying to see right through her.
Yvonne tried to pull away, but he held her hand more firmly. “Let go,” she said, her voice tinged with irritation.
Reid didn’t budge. He leaned closer, his lips brushing her ear as he whispered, “I’ll never let go. You’re mine.”
His breath warmed her neck, sending a shiver through her. “I won’t be yours,” Yvonne shot back.
Reid smiled, his voice low and soft. “Then I’ll be yours, heart and soul.” With that, he bent down, scooped her up by the knees, and carried her into the bedroom.
He laid her on the bed, propping himself up on his arms on either side of her. “Fourteen,” he said, slowly stating a number. Yvonne tried to push him away. “Reid, even if I divorce him, it won’t be because of you.”
“Hmm, I get it. If you don’t divorce him soon, I might think he’s bewitched you.”
“Mr. Simmons, aren’t you worried I might cling to you if you keep this up?”
Reid raised an eyebrow. “I’d welcome that.” Then he slowly moved down to find her lips.
Yvonne turned her head, and his lips landed near her ear instead. Reid just nibbled gently on her earlobe. Yvonne shivered, letting out a soft gasp that sounded almost seductive.
Reid chuckled, his laughter full of joy and satisfaction. “Yvonne, don’t deny what your body feels. Last night… you wer definitely enjoying it, too.”
The pull of wine and moonlight was irresistible. Yvonne’s breathing slowed, and she started to unwind, letting herself go. She closed her eyes and drifted into a sea of passion, her mind getting fuzzy.
Reid bent his head and gently kissed Yvonne’s forehead. The soft touch made her shiver a bit, and a mix of emotions surged
in her heart.

She instinctively wanted to push him away, but her hands had a mind of their own, moving up his strong chest to his neck and hooking slightly as they kissed deeply. The room’s lights slowly dimmed, hiding the intimate scene.
Steven got home around noon, wearing a sharp suit with every hair perfectly in place, looking very polished and elegant. He was carrying a big bunch of fresh, vibrant roses.
Reid had just left a little while ago. If Steven had gotten back ten minutes earlier, he might have caught Reid and Yvonne in bed.
Yvonne was tidying up the trash can in the room. Hearing a noise, she initially thought Reid had forgotten something and had come back. But when Steven’s smiling face showed up behind the bouquet, she paused slightly and quietly tied the garbage bag.
“Honey, these flowers were hard to get. I looked everywhere for them. Do you like them?” Steven asked.
Yvonne glanced at the bouquet and walked past him with the trash in hand.
Steven quickly put the flowers on the table, hurried forward, and grabbed the garbage bag. “Honey, you go put the flowers in a vase. I’ll take out the trash,” he said.
Yvonne was caught off guard and didn’t have time to say anything before Steven rushed out with the trash bag. She stood by the window, watching him.
As he walked, Steven weighed the garbage bag, realizing something was off. It felt too light, almost empty. He stopped and looked down at the bag curiously.
Yvonne felt a bit mischievous, secretly hoping he’d open it and take a look.
But Steven wasn’t the type to go through the trash. After a moment, he walked to the dumpster, threw the bag in, and left. Yvonne looked away and went to the kitchen to start making lunch. She was a bit preoccupied, wondering if Reid had worn that thing the last time.
“Honey, make one for me too. I haven’t eaten either,” Steven called out as he came in.
Yvonne snapped back to reality, suddenly remembering how Steven was hugging Sharon in the kitchen the other day. She looked at the egg cooker in her hand and lost interest. She tossed the pan aside, deciding to eat out.
Steven noticed her indifferent look, thinking he had been speaking nicely to her, but she still seemed so cold, which made him a bit upset.
“Yvonne, what’s the matter? Didn’t you hear me talking to you?” Steven’s voice got a little louder.
Yvonne looked up with a mocking smile. “Are you sure you want to hear what I have to say?”
Steven’s eyes brightened, and he suddenly smiled as he got closer and reached for her hand. “Come on, don’t be stubborn. If you don’t want to cook, we can go out to eat.
“I know I’ve been ignoring you lately. I’ll have my assistant make a reservation. After lunch, let’s catch a movie. I’m not going anywhere tonight. I’ll stay with you, okay?”
Yvonne pulled her hand back and gave a smile as she reached out to fix his tie.
Steven thought he had finally convinced her, and he couldn’t help but smile, leaning his head slightly toward her neck.
“Honey–uh, let go,” he started to say, but before he could finish, Yvonne grabbed both sides of his tie and suddenly yanked it tight around his neck.

Her smile remained, but there was a hint of harshness in it. “Steven, before you say that, would you kindly cover up the hickey on your neck?”
Steven’s face turned bright red in an instant, and anger surged through him like a tidal wave. Without thinking, he forcefully shoved Yvonne aside.
The push was out of pure anger, and as soon as Steven saw Yvonne hit the corner of the table with her lower back, he froze. His anger quickly turned into panic.
Yvonne winced in pain, holding her back with one hand, her face turning a bit pale.
“Honey, are you okay?” Steven rushed over to check on her.
But at that moment, all of Yvonne’s anger suddenly erupted. She grabbed a glass bottle nearby, lifted it high, and smashed it hard over Steven’s head.
The vase shattered on Steven’s head, and blood immediately started flowing down his forehead. The bright red liquid ran down his face, blurring his vision. Steven’s eyes widened in disbelief.
